***Note: This is my first post in the retro forum so I wasn't sure if this belonged in the "Official Appraisal" thread or not, since I really am just looking for an ID and not a value but if this is in the wrong place please feel free to move it.

I have what appears to be a fairly unusual Colt bolt carrier that I could use a hand identifying. It is chrome and has the FA serrations so from my Googling I thought it might be a 603 XM16E1 carrier but it has the square gas key so I'm not sure now.

I bought this from a guy who thought it was just a "well-worn" carrier and he was under the impression that the parkerizing had just worn off and I picked it up for almost nothing, but it sure feels like chrome and looks like chrome to me.  When I bought this I was initially looking for a newer FA carrier to use in a more contemporary clone (a MK18 Mod 0) so this carrier, while it works great, isn't "correct" for my clone and so I'd hate to be sitting on a piece that someone might need for a retro clone if this one is rare.

So, I guess what I'm wanting to know is:

What is this carrier?

Is it fairly rare?

If I continue to use it in my Mk18 Mod clone, is there a reliability or wear problem using my newer Parkerized Colt Bolt in a chrome carrier?

It's not an XM16E1 carrier. You can tell by the C on the left side and the small hole on the right for the firing pin retainer.

It's a later modern style Colt carrier that has either had the finish polished off it, or has been chromed.

Ah, ok thanks. That makes me feel better about using it in my MK18 Mod 0 and it also means I don't feel guilty about keeping a carrier that someone else might have needed for a retro clone. Thanks for the input. It is odd though, why someone would go through all that trouble to remove the parkerizing. Oh well, it was only $30.00 if I recall correctly.

It doesn't look like my xm carrier. For sure it wouldn't have the "C" stamped in it.

I need to learn how to type faster.

The "C"s were stamped from about 1968 and on. Prior to that,Colt was the only game in town and there was no need to mark them. After H&R and GM got their contracts, then Colt marked them with the "C".

I've seen soldiers do some fucking stupid shit when cleaning weapons for turn in. Some were officers and senior NCOs.

These are some pics of my BCG that I believe to be an all original XM16e1 item.

No markings on the assembly.  Bolt marked MP.  Large head firing pin.  Staked gas key.  Black cam pin.  Crappy, noob-like iPhone pics.
