| Got an original Colt AR15 upper from a complete Colt AR15 that I bought new in 1975. Had to get rid of the lower receiver when the California BS started years ago, but used the upper and new lower to be compliant for current use. Nostalgic and collector values aside, I would rather have a new 16" upper with the 1/9 twist and flat top and forward assist. With the quicker twist rate I could still accurately shoot my reserves of M193 ammo but could also shoot newer rounds of 62gr and heavier. The flat top would allow me to easily add a red dot sight to help my aging eyes. The forward assist would likely be more for aesthetics than function but not a bad thing to have just in case and the shorter OAL would be better for urban defense. So my question is what would the value of an original complete Colt AR15 upper in great shape be? |

So my question is what would the value of an original complete Colt AR15 upper in great shape be? is it milspec or a sp1? colt's civilian version of the ar15 was the sp1 which had a larger pivot pin hole (larger in the front than the rear) and the lack of a sear relief at the bottom. pics would help. |

It must be the SP1 then, it came in a Colt box with manual and the rest from Colt. I'll add pictures this evening as soon as I can. depending on when it was bought it could be milspec size. colt did away with the large holes in the sporter line. looking forward to pics. |

Looks like it has a shim in the front pivot point, if I remember correctly had to do that to mate it to the newer lower that made it "Ca compliant". It has a round forearm now but I believe I may have the original triangular one.

Now that we know what it is, any ideas on value? we can only give appraisals in this thread: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_123/523435_OFFICIAL_APPRAISAL_THREAD_REQUESTS_FOR_APPRAISALS_ONLY_IN_THIS_THREAD.html you can just link to this thread for the pics. if you were to find a modern a3 upper w/ bcg, it would be a fair trade straight across. |
