Does anyone have dimensions for one of these?

I have 3 repro ones that one of our members made up a few years ago (drawing a blank on his name right now),I don't know where he got his measurements from,I think he scaled it from pics or something like that. I can send you measurements from these if you think it would help.I can't do pics,my puter is shot and am using daughters laptop.
I keep thinking it was UncleMoak, but not sure,,I do know he was one of the guys who was very instrumental in the making of the prototype FSBs.He wrote the puter program and made the plastic model of the FSB that Orex sent to the foundry.

It's Uncle Moak.

I think they are a  little too big judging from pics, but then again I have seen 2-3 sizes.

The 1965 Official Colt pic of the 607 with full curve mag is definitely a smaller cone than the 608.

There were a number of discussions about the viability and reasoning behind these over the last few years. An archive search should find them. Lots of pictures of short barrelled 'trumpets' along with theories. Note they used them on M1 carbines and AR18 short carbines as well. Just a little too odd for me - reminds me of Dr. Suess for some reason.

Measurements would help, doesnt need to be perfect just to get the general shape.

I have a reproduction M2 flash hider for the Garand that I plan to use for my 608. From what I can tell the M2 appears to be very close in size to the 608's conical flash hider.

I'll get some measurements tomorrow.

Something I've always meant to do but never got around to it yet.  Has anyone used them and if so could they report on performance?

Using digital calipers:
Overall length = 3"
Outside diameter of large end = 1.745
Outside diameter of thin end = 0.748
Wall thickness of the bell = 0.130
Length of the thin end, from end to the point it starts to taper = 0.620
Side to side at the wrench flats = 0.640
Wrench flat cuts from the end in measure 0.300

John, my flash hider appears to be both slightly different and to be made differently than the
one pictured early in this post.

It is most likely a replica M2; the seller thought it was
and it has no markings on it at all.  In
addition it seems to be made of thinner material than originals.

The cone itself is two piece; the cone and a adapter that slides into the
cone.  The adapter has a projection that
passes through a hole in the bayonet lug attachment.  The projection was upset so that it remained
in the part that attaches to the bayonet lug.

The cone appears to have been made on a metal spinning lathe.

Here are the measurements in inches:

Cone:

Length: 2.6

Large Diameter: 1.85

Small Diameter: 0.95

Thickness: 0.03

Adapter:

O/A Length: 0.8

"Inside” Length: 0.475

Large Diameter: 1.0

Small Diameter: 0.89

Projection: 0.625

Through hole: 0.5

In order to modify mine to work on the 608 I’ll have to turn
a new adapter.  It will need to be a two
piece adapter, one that has the proper taper for the inside of the cone and a
means to attach the rear most part of the adapter that has the ½ x 28 threads
for the barrel.  I don’t know yet if I will
thread these two pieces together of if I’ll press fit and braze them.

You can make one from an M1 Carbine Flash Hider:

Here is how mine turned out back in the early 90's:

...Or you could adapt an Enfield 'Jungle Carbine' flash hider to your AR...

The front sight was just a little bit too low, so I fabricated an FH with the sight base extended somewhat...(FH at bottom)...

Project stalled due to work constraints...

(Sorry about the poor quality pic; the flash on my digi-cam refused to work)...

Some smart guy should develop a conical muzzle device for the 50 states as a conical-esque brake/sound-director.

I'm not such a smart guy but it might be worth a try for someone.
