Just recieved a Colt 4x20 scope and had a question. It is going to sound stupid but it looks like there are some kind of loose fibers around the reticle's edge. My 3x20 Colt does not have this.

I already cleaned the glass so it seems to be on the inside. Any ideas?

There are a lot of copies of the late model Colt 4x20 scopes.  Can you post pics of the outside of it for is?  Not saying your is, just want make sure no issues.

I have an early version Japan made Colt that has the same stuff, not as much of it, but it's there.

Never bothered me much.

Was just wondering if it was normal since the 3x scope isn't affected. Here are some pics:

The only main difference physically besides the fatter rear section of the scope body is the way the lenses are set in the front. The 4x is flat while the 3x has a couple steps.

Mine's a 3x.
I always figured it was just a roughly cut rubber gasket, as I've seen in other scopes.

Could be a rubber seal deteriorating near the reticle mask.
