Does anyone know of a good aftermarket chrome bolt group that would fill the bill until I could find an original for an early 604? Thanks for any help!

I like the Young National Match chrome carrier. You can get it without the logo. It is pricey, but a darn fine assembly.
I bought a chrome DPMS chrome BCG on closeout and it had lots of hiccups. May not have been indicative of DPMS quality, but that was my experience. I think that chrome Bolt carrier groups come up a lot on the EE. Just checks those bolt springs. |
| 2nd the Young they are the best but you can probably find an original Colt for similar coins as a rule. RRA would be chrome in semi auto but will have assist serrations and can usually be had on EE for $125ish seller USAGold? or wait until RRA has a sale and buy for same price shipped. |

I just forked over 200 for this from Rainer Arms for my XM...Looks to be quality and very similar to USGI. Also got one of the KNS firing pin retain pins as well. I saw a XM 603 carrier on the EE that had a phosphated gas key and stardard bolt go for 400.. Not sure if it was the real deal or not though. 604 BCGs seem a bit more common that 603 chrome carriers

Machinehead is a great guy to deal with and everything I've bought from him has been top quality. Recently bought a spare bolt and he handpicked one for me. Definitely go for the real deal if you can, even if you just get the carrier by itself. Snipertewg had some too I believe - another great guy. |

604 BCGs seem a bit more common that 603 chrome carriers Most definately. 603 authentic chrome unit is a pretty rare bird. By a factor of about 100 to 1 from the very few I've seen. Chrome 604 carriers seem pretty common. In all the time I've been a member I think I've only seen 5 or 6 XM16E1 carriers, and even fewer complete BCGs in good condition, and I bought the last one I saw. |

To be honest here,,,the carrier group in the auction is technically incorrect for a 604.A very early 604 really should have a 3/4 round gas key.
Should have been but I've actually seen more full round than 3/4 round gas keys in 604's that had chrome BCG's. Don't see many real one's anymore. I was also gonna note your correction in previous post but held back as I was seeing 601. If OP is looking follow the GB auction and remember Snipertewg sells for $130ish shipped and they are like new coins. Is this the real deal? Hole on right looks a little small to me but I've been wrong and it's probably how I'm looking at pic. Don't have one on hand for comparrison and probably won't.. Bolt and FP are definately early correct but it looks 603 to me and arsenal built at best, ad says 604 in description.. Chrome 604 carriers seem pretty common. I think the most common are actually 601/602 which were probably over manufactured for the amount of rifles produced and sold in 604's and then followed by 3/4 round keys which they made a bunch of as you see them on the parkerized models / transitional also for a while in timeline. |
