I have a non-chromed barrel with a cast FSB (ground smooth), rubber coated sling swivel, improved three prong flash suppressor, "C" stamped on face of the barrel extension, M VP (in triangle) under the sight base and a "12" about an inch from the muzzle.  I think there might be a faint "S" there as well.

Would this be in the ballpark for either a late 601 or an early to mid 602?

Thanks.

These were made 1964-1966
They are correct for mid to late 602, early 603 XM16E1, very early 604, or 605 (if
cut down to 15")

I have an early 1965 Colt SP1 that is marked this way. It has a small s before the 12 stamping.

+1, colt started marking them with the small S for the SP1 models on the M VP 12 barrels.  i'll check if the other barrels are marked this way.  it was only for a certain period of time as the later C MP CHROME BORE ones were not marked with a S.

Always wondered what the S meant on my '65 SP1 barrel.

Somewhere I thought I read the meaning of the S was unknown though. Can't remember where now.
