I saw Olgunner's post about the Colt Armalite marked bipod a few weeks ago. His bipod has both legs marked with both the Colt and Armalite logos.
http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_123/570011_Colt_Armalite_Bipod__at_last__.html Was there a subsequent model that was just marked with the Colt logo, no Armalite, but was still marked on both legs, and came with an open topped canvas pouch like the earlier ones? Would a variant like this be difficult to find, or considered rare? Expensive? Thanks! |

I wouldn't think so. Getting more difficult to find all the time but gunnyssurplus had some Colt's the last time I checked and pretty sure Sarco has some if they will look. They made well over a million of c-clip style so I wouldn't say rare and not what I'd call expensive either ($25-50). The Armalite/Colt is the grail of AR bipods unless one is including an authentic 606. Early pouch is probably harder to find than the bipod in my opinion but that's a $5 item. Many were assembled with what I call two lefts but some could say two rights (still the same piece). There was a war on and they wanted them in the field. As stated not many veterans carried them in the field. I believe I've seen a NOS packaged bipod before and it was unassembled with two legs the pin and a c-clip if memory serves and pouch was distributed seperately with what they had on hand. Way more important cary items on patrol than a basically useless AR bipod. Jungle environment is not very AR bipod friendly and ambush situation would have way more firepower than a M-16 on a bipod. Looks good in the movies I guess. |

+1 I still haven't bought a bipod, although I would have saved myself soem money if I'd bought it a couple years ago. I can't see any point at which I'd actually use the damn thing except for a picture. I do, however, understand Olgunner's glee at finding a real Armalite/Colt marked bipod for his real 601. Colt marked bipods are still pretty common, and frankly, the price they are asking now is way out of line IMO. I mean $80 for a piece of steel you'll likely never use? Jeez. I'd rather buy another good LPK or something I have use for.
ETA: The only reason I want a bipod is to fill a bipod case, which was combined with the cleaning kit - for an XM16E1 this is legit, and I will eventually find the right one at the right time. Pretty common stilll, and someday I would like everything the XM16E1 came with, but I doubt I'll ever use the damn bipod. If it's not a Colt but period I don;t give a rat's ass. |
| Think I bought some IDF bipods for $13ish each from Numrich a while back. Both legs are stamped # 8448457 and rubberized carry case is in Hebrew which I don't read at this time. Gotta be a hebrew keypad conversion out there. Now I'm curious and don't have much to do. Actually I liked my sand bags a little better. Used some heat shrink to keep from scratching up the barrel. Agreed on the accessories thing. Why not! For $80 it better say Armalite/Colt and Colt's also had the c-clip before the rivet style. OP if you find one with c-clips on both sides which I've never seen one it would also be pretty rare. |
