I have an A1 retro rifle that has an "F" marked front sight base. I managed to zero it but the front sight post is screwed in almost all the way down, is the standard A1 front sight post shorter? Where can I buy the shorter front sight post? (i've tried to google it, found lots of info but cant find the actual product to purchase..)

Thanks!

Others will jump in with more authority, but I believe you have a carbine front sight base, and a later one at that. The FSB is taller than the retro rifle FSB, thus the need to crank down the post. You may be able to find a shorter post. A purist would say swap the FSB for a real A1 item.

I filed it down a bit, and used some perma blue paste. Will re-zero it on saturday. Thanks! (that fix was simple..duhh! I should've known).  I was able to zero it before I filed it but the sight was almost bottomed out, this way the fsp sits up a bit higher.

I did a search and found this thread. same question. but from what I see the 16" barrel is .200" and the 20" barrel is .300" so I think we need a .160" sight because the F front sight is .040 taller then the A1 sight I'm going to file it down and repark it. wish I still had a micrometer.

You got it right.  File/machine it down (doubt if I'd spend much on a re-color as this is a normal wear part anyway).  Guessing yours is a square post.  All in what you want but a round post would be more retro.  KNS used to sell different height and width posts in round and square style (not the cheapest) and most everyone offers a plus .050 for certain flat top carbines that won't zero at 25yd with a standard length post.  Never really a problem on rifle length system zero with either style FSB (appears you are fine tuning your rifle for personal preference which is a good thing).  Might want to work on the FCG next.  Seems the standard today for FSB's is F marked for carbine or rifle system in .750 diameter.  Keeps mfg costs down anyway but both styles are still available.  At some point they will all become F marked mfg and the shorter original spec base will become obsolete.

Yes...like said above.

Or...install the correct FSB.  They are available.
