Guys,

What is the best book out there that shows the retro models to help in building ? Specifically looking at XM177 style models. Thanks in advance.

The Black Rifle, M16 retrospective is the one I see referenced most.  I started a thread on this, maybe a month or two ago?  Some other publications were cited.  I also bought  a book at Jhud's recommendation called, simply, the m16.  I believe the author is Jean Huon.  It has some interesting information.  I am also looking for another good source for retros to compliment these two fine books.

It's expensive, but very much worth it: http://www.amazon.com/The-Black-Rifle-Retrospective-Military/dp/0889351155/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1332224404&sr=8-1

+1 for The Black Rifle. Good historical reference that those serious about AR15's should have.

About the Masami Tokoi M16 and Stoner Rifles book, I bought my copy from Amazon-Japan. I had been looking here in the US for a copy and the only ones I ever found were $150 plus. One appeared a few months ago on Gunbroker that went for about $110, which was cheap as far as I could tell. A friend in Japan saw that I was looking for a copy and directed me to Amazon-Japan. I bought a like new copy for about $80 shipped. Shipping was by air and took about a week. All things considered, it was an easy transaction.  I noticed they still have some listed starting at about 5800 yen, which translates to about $74. Here is a link, which you may have to translate to English.  Also, you may have to cut and paste––

As to an English translation of the book, I am not aware of one.
By the way, if you have any interest in AK's, his book on AK's is great–– I think better than the M16 book.

Jean Huon's M16 book is unfortunately pretty poorly translated. As a result some of the pictures seem to be mislabeled, and some of the technical language ends up getting garbled. However as a result I was able to find a copy for under $3 online, so might be worth it anyway. The World’s Assault Rifles by Thomas Nelson has some very good AR pics/info (plus a whole lot of other rifles, many rare) and is about $50 new.

Does anyone have, or has anyone read, The Great Rifle Controversy by Edward Ezell, and would offer their comments regarding same?
