Well, last night I started to put together my rifle after having it stripped down to replace some parts and darken up the lower with CLP. Everything went together pretty easy BUT I think I might have a couple of problems.
First, I when I installed the buffer tube to the lower the leading edge of the tube hung over the hole for the buffer detent. So with out giving it too much thought I went into the garage and notched the edge of the tube to clear the detent. The notch is only maybe 1/16inch deep. Did I make a mistake by notching the tube?
Second, I purchased a no-tick safety off of the EE from boywonder. Once installed I notice that the when the switch is moved to the semi position, the place that it stops at is about 1/16inch from being centered and perpendicular to the semi marking. In that position the switch doesn't really snap securely into the semi position. You can move the switch the extra distance to line up with the marking and snap securely in position BUT to move it back to the safety position is quite difficult. whats going on there? Thanks for the continued support guys! |
| The tube is suppose to cover the bigger part of the detent the smaller part is to stop the buffer from coming out of the tube you want this to move up and down so you can depress it to get the buffer in the stock.(safety) Try taking your stock off and turning the detent around that holds the selector in place one end is more round than the other and make sure you have a small amount of grease on it so it can move on the selector smoothly |

If I'm tracking with what you are saying, you did mess up there. The buffer tube is meant to partially cover the detent hole. This is what holds the detent in place (keeps it from jumping up) when everything is put together. If you meant the tube screws in so far that it hits the nipple on the buffer detent which prevents it from moving up and down freely, and you just removed a little to allow for detent movement, you did not cause any harm. Well, shit...I guess I screwed the pooch on that one... Its a new production buffer tube so its no big loss. I guess that gives me incentive to find a GI gray tube. Anyone know where to find one? No,but if you send a self-addressed paid package I've got a new black one that is surplus to my needs!!! Say the word. |

Don't do it man! Throw it away! It's your only hope!
Leave him alone. I'm sure he's already planning his next build around that buffer tube. Next time you have a question please ask before doing any grinding. We race each other here to see who responds correctly first. Sounds like you are in good hands. Welcome to retroland and good luck. I'm sure you're gonna love the way it shoots. |

I was GONNA sell that LM upper but I let the wife guide me in most of my decisions especially retro. She's probably the only one with my well being in mind 100% of the time. I want to buy something retro she asks what am I going to sell and how much do I like what I'm planning to sell. Then she advises or least gives her opinion. She has one pair of shoes more than I have guns if that gives an idea of how many guns. |
| I pulled the safety today to see what the problem is. It turns out that there are burrs but, the semi position detent hole was drilled just out of line. As a result the detent does not want to seat in the semi position hole and gets stuck in the hole when pushed the extra distance. I smoothed the burrs a bit to no avail. I asked for a replacement from boywonder since I got it from him. Has anyone else every run into a mis-drilled safety of any kind? |
