I just bought a LM upper for the port door, forward assist and rear sight assembly.
I'm assuming this is just a normal symptom of the dreaded RBRD?
SO. Now I have a quandary. I WAS gonna chop an "in the white" kit barrel for a 605 clone. NOW I have...... A late XM16E1 No Forge Code Rebated Lug upper with a FNMI barrel with an excellent bore AND A 70's(?) LM upper with a CMP CHROME BORE barrel with an excellent bore AND A stripped early XM16E1 No Forge Code Rebated Lug upper with a new stripped "in the white" kit barrel One upper has GOT to go. If it sits around y'all know what will happen! It'll suck all my money out of my pockets! Which barrel gets chopped now? The FNMI or the CMP Chrome? It'll save me money from having to have a FSB mounted on the kit barrel. Since the 605 will never be correct (it'll be on an A1 upper) should I just lop the CMP and run it on the LM upper it's on? Will my RBRD allow that? The late XM16E1 with the FNMI barrel will be fine for a late issue XM16E1 build. I am not anal enough to let the barrel not being right bother me so I probably won't lop it. I wanted the early upper to be a beat to shit 605 truck gun since the upper is pitted and refinished. (JT the magician made it beautiful again) Plus it's the upper that gave me the RBRD in the first place. Maybe I should trade the early XM16E1 upper for a parts? I DO want/need a 604! I have a head ache now. |

I think you need a 604 upper for the 605, so maybe you should trade with someone.
Since you're in FL, you might be able to get away with the 605 being reliable with just an opened-up gas port, but I have chosen to go dissipator/carbine length gas underneath for mine, as mine will be a blaster for spitting bullets until it burns. Do you have any lowers yet? |

LRRP
My shooting finger shrivels up in the cold so I won't be doing any shooting in it. I'm hoping Santa will bring me 2 NoDak E1 lowers. I'm cheap so I may wind up with a "605ish" clone with the 603 upper. Octane and grywht The kit barrel is what I had planned on lopping. I'm cheap but those are two perfectly good barrels and both are chrome lined. Gary I am considering your offer but I don't have a barrel wrench yet though. |
| Chop the kit barrel. They are perfect for it and you can shoot different ammo through it too. Keep the FNMI and CMP chrome bore just like they are. They don't usually get much better chrome lined than those two. Curb the sickness and hide one away for a while. Kinda like quitting smoking with a pack in the glove compartment except the barrels won't get old and stale. |
