| can anyone elaborate on the differences between the black and gray flat sliprings and when they were used...im thinking that the black was used in 1969 when the CMPC barrels where introduced. |

I am also interested in this question. I have looked at the threads on the sticky section but the coloring does not appear to be covered. I have what I believe to be an original C MP C barrel and upper. It has a black, flat slip ring. I also wondered if it may have been rebuilt sometime and black was what the armorer had on hand at the time. My upper has no forge codes of any type (it is round not flat) and the black lugs with the rebate in the front lug.
Anyway, great question. Any ideas out there? |

it's real hard to tell the colors in some of the pics...taking pics of round slip rings and the flatter receivers can really throw the colors off, especially if a flash is used
that and the fact that I've seen at least a dozen different shades of gray on slip rings doesn't make matching them any easier

| The purplish black ones seemed to come on a lot of the uppers with different barrel combos and covered a pretty wide range. I'm pretty convinced they used what they had on hand and didn't worry about a correct color match in the mfg process of the real one's. Were too busy trying to reach quotas'. |
