So I went ahead and got a M16 Selector and modified it to shoot only Semi by grinding off the nub on the Selector. Enables the Semi gun to rotate to the Auto Position for that cool look even thought it only shoots Semi in the Auto Position! If any of you want to do this I bought the selector from JSE for $9.00 and used a file to mod it to Semi only. Took about ten min to do. I then used cold blue to touch it up. Here are the pics. THIS WEAPON CAN ONLY SHOOT SEMI!!!!!

I did with steel wool and a small file on the high edges! wanted it to look like the 16s I have seen in the Army!

Installing an un-altered full auto selector with semi auto patrs will result in the "auto" position functioning as another safe position.

NIce work so far, needs a fake sear hole engraving and the AUTO engraving.

All four of my AR's have modified auto selectors.  I want my lowers to have gray metal parts rather than black.

It takes about 15 seconds with a Dremel.
You do have to be careful and use a light touch with a Dremel.

I use these and something like these:http://www.ebay.com/itm/3-EACH-DREMEL-TYPE-GRINDING-WHEELS-1-8-SHANK-WHL-18-/260873428312?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cbd449d58

I used a Dremel aluminum oxide grinding wheel to remove the center cam, a Dremel emery impregnated disc to polish it up, and a touch of black spray paint to prevent corrosion.

I use the standard thin cutting wheel.
You have to angle cut it twice, then clean it up.
I tried to take pictures once, but holding a camera and doing the work didn't work out too well.
I ended up with blurry pictures.
I need an official photographer.

whats the pay/ benefits?

i use a dremel and drill to make new detents and the groove from a semi auto selector.
then i can say nuh uh, never been a m16, never gonna be a m16, no sir, no m16 parts in my rifle.
(well we wont count the carrier, thats been documented)
also i can (have)  make it a 4 position.

^^^^ How difficult is that? Drill press or hand drill? Take a long time to do?

I have these in both of my ARs, I like having two semi auto positions, I also tapped a fake "sear pin" onto the receivers with a center punch before refinishing them.  I kind of regret the fake sear pin now though because I live in NJ and felt like the ROs at my range were eyeballing my rifles last time I was there, the last thing I want is to be hassled because they think I have an M16, but now I have no choice... at least they look cool in my collection but they kind of attract unwanted attention at the range.  At least I didnt get the "AUTO" marking done on it

drill press, pretty steep learning curve.
i screwed up a few.
i made a jig, a 3/8" inch hole side to side in a piece of steel, with holes (1/8"? dont remember,) through it top to bottom. at 90 degrees.(for the dimple{S})
used the same drill as a detent up from the bottom to locate the selector, and drilled the new dimple. careful about depth.
then the trick was the "line" or channel between the dimples. dremel cut off wheel, needle file, whatever  works for you.
takes some experimenting for sure.
be advised you will NOT be able to drill the selector withut getting it red first.
when you're done get it red again and its the  perfect color.
yeah, it lost its "hardness" but so what?

When I modified my M16 selector, I dremeled the ridge that contacts the disconnector, and I also put a bead of weld in the slot where the auto sear leg goes. Just to be double sure.

Modification is not required. The M16 FA selector is not prohibited for use in an AR15 as long as it does not make it fire FA (which it by itself can not). This is not a gey area either. It will have 2 safe positions as opposed to one.

Safe - Semi - Semi is more fun than Safe - Semi - Safe.

Just sayin'.

If it is legal I like this way better :
Safe Fire Safe again I want to be sure it's fully 100% first.

You can have as many full auto parts in your rifle, so long as the rifle doesn't actually fire full auto. Putting a full auto selector in rifle will not in itself make the rifle fire full auto, so it's legal.
