Can anyone tell me the origin or model of this upper assy?

I know it is a Colt A1 upper, 11.5" heavy barrel stamped 5.56 but no other markings, Colt bolt/carrier assy., early sight tower, A1 front sight, A1 flash hider, early CAR15 type single heat shield handguards.

Is this a "Commando" barrel? I thought Commando's used a lightweight barrel assy? Was there ever a variant of the XM177E2 that used a heavy 11.5" barrel? Thoughts?

That front sight base isn't original Colt. It's .750" in diameter. Originals are .625".

yup, I'd say an Oly heavy barreled A1 upper.

is that delta ring plastic?.....looks very shiny for being anodized, unless it's dripping with oil

have some close up pics of the markings on the upper?
