I have a grey/green A1 upper that has the black counter bored lugs, but no Colt marks? Also, the barrel has the MP (only mark) with no drain hole front sight, but there is no 12 mark on barrel? The only marking on the upper is the MP under the front sight block on the ejection port side. Any ideas as this does not match the variation guide? Also, where can I get a correct forward assist and front sling swivel for this upper? I got it from Ohio Ordinance in their last sale and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, but no digital camera and my cell camera is worthless.

The barrel should have a "12" or a "C" near the muzzle right behind the flash suppressor.

Is this a 20" barrel?  Might it have been cut down?

The MP under the FSB would still make it a 66 era barrel. Maybe the 12 stamped near the FH is faded? Or even stamped too lightly, then faded over time? Either way I would date it based on the MP stamp. Maybe the barrel is not original to the upper, and it was mfg earlier? Look at the new flow chart, very useful info in there.

Not necessarily. It could also be an "MP C" barrel, which would make it later than '66.

Those are marked on the bottom of the barrel between the FSB & muzzle, not between the FSB supports.

ETA: Never mind, I know what you are referring to now. MP between the FSB, & the C on the bottom of the barrel near the muzzle.

Yeah, I should've clarified that a bit more.

Thanks,  if it was ever marked 12 or C behind the flash hider it must have been super light.  I can find no evidence of any markings on the barrel between the front sight and flash hider.

I saw both MP with a C and 12 in the Ohio Ordnance uppers.  Talking a years difference basically.  Appears to me many were armory assembled due to having a lot of Colt XM16E1 receivers without Colt verification proofs and later barrels.  On the MP stamped barrels,  all I saw had Colt square forge,  proofed XM16E1 receivers.  If you want a Colt teardrop assists you will probably have to buy off the web and complete NOS will probably run around $30 shipped.  The DPMS teardrop is basically identical for $10-15 depending on where and when it's purchased.  JSE surplus $10 ish or Midway when in stock with discount.  Rumor has it DPMS has discontinued this item so I'd grab a couple if pockets allowed it.

You need to decide which sling you want on it.  I like the cotton M-1 garand sling but many use the seatbelt appearing nylon.  These are also pretty easy to come by.  Most any decent army surplus store will have a lot to variances used to chose from for cheap.  Charleyssurplus has new nylon M-14 or cotton garand in olive/green or M-16 A-2 in black, if black is desired for cheap but also have a $30 minimum.  Silent sling is later chronologicaly than your upper.

Thanks for all of the replies, who on-line is selling the NOS Colt tear drop forward assists and a correct sling swivel for this upper?  Should it have the rubber coated swivel?  The upper came with no sling swivel at all.

Place a couple want to buy adds.  They will find you.  Took me two weeks to find one with plenty of e-mails sent and very few replies.  Look on the EE and GB and when you see a seller with retro parts e-mail with questions.  Member Jhud may have some Colts but not sure about NOS.  Good luck.

you'll need the rest of the parts (pawl, pawl spring, roll pin) or cannibalize them from an a2.
