Hi i'm looking to build a retro of my dad's m16 he had in vietnam (he was in the army). He said it had black furniture and no forward assist and a 3 Prong Flash Suppressor. Did the 601 come with only green or brown furniture? I'm guessing he had a 602.
Thanks Keith |
| When was he there? 601/602 were phased out pretty quickly. Does he have any old pics? That would be the easiest way to determine what he had. 602 with correct parts is a hard build even with luck as many of us here are finding out. Welcome to retroland and good luck with your build. Ask him if it had a chrome BCG? That should be easy to remember even after 40 plus years. |

Both a 601 and 602 would have had full chromed bolt carrier groups, so I'm leaning towards saying that it was an early, transitional 604 due to the 3-prong suppressor. It is possible, however, that his rifle could have been a 601 or 602 with updated black furniture and a parkerized carrier or BCG. |
