I am looking for period correct upgrades for my 607.

If someone secured a 607 while in country, When would it have been....late 60s thru mid 70s?

For example, a single point sight is period correct.

I would like to mod my 607 a little but I only want to use period correct mods, from military or the civilian market.

What else would have been possible back then, anyone remember-or know?

Thanks

I  don't really know what your asking but I assume you mean what period the 607 was in circulation, if at all.  This would have been 1964-1966 time period.  By late 66 the XM177 was on the boards.

The only mods I've seen pics of on a 607 is a cone flash hider.  The tool room prototypes sported various moderators or flash hiders, and the cut-off PG, and skinny or fat handguards, FA and Non-FA.  I don't believe it was fielded extensively enough to "grow" accessories or upgrades.

ETA: Singlepoints I believe are a bit later than the 65 time period.  69-70.

I have never seen a picture of an 607 with optics. The only upgrade I plan to add to my 607 clone is the Ops Inc M4S moderator. I can't afford a colt XM177 moderator and the original 607 moderator had a tight exit arpature wich caused tracer ammo to yaw upon leaving the muzzle rendering them inaccurate. The latest upgrade I plan on is a carbine gas tube by Tim LaFrance,I beleive this would enhance reliability.YMMV,Ronnie

Another worthy upgrade if needed is a heavy buffer.

Was there ever a modded rear sight for same plane use?

Good stuff, and thanks for the info guys.

I think I might promote my 607 to regular shooter duty only without all the bells and whistles I normally see on other AR carbines at the range.

Looks like an optic is out, so my single point will find it's way to my XM177.  Since the carry handle won't be holding an optic, maybe I will stick on my NDS top charger thingie, just to see how it looks/works.

Sights:  Thanks for the reminder, I will replace my rear with a single plane low light unit and add a skinny NM post for the front.  Not too noticeable and should provide a slightly better sight picture.  I may add a rapidex windage knob.  I know its not totally vintage correct, but I had one in the early 80s and it did help alot when shooting and adjusting the sights on an A1.

I have both the moderators available from our team members here, with grenade rings.  I feel that they add too much weight and length to my 10.5" barrel to consider leaving them on.  Not a big cone fan but I have never seen one up close so I'm not ruling it out yet.  The 3 prong flash hider lets the lil beast roar but sorta takes away from the shooting fun, for me anyway.  I may try one of my spare pigs and see how it looks and works.

That leaves the sling and mounting options to study.

So it's top charging, good sighted, Pig wearing 607 for now.  That leaves plenty of time to research things like slings, mounts and rhino gas systems.

I like the looks of the pig.  I think that would be a great upgrade for a 607.  At least it's practical.

I'm diggin the pig too, and it feels lighter than either of my faux moderators.  Added the grenade ring for indexing.
Sights are on the way and I still need a sling and maybe a piston system.

Hell, I really like the feel of the top charger.  Kinda reminds me of my original AR-10 way back when.
I don't know if there was any way possible for a top charger to find it's way onto a 607 back in the 60s, but what the hell.
I like it and it adds to its uniqueness.

Cool...Looks like something that should have been.  Careful, or you mind wind up making another 607.
