Not really.  Maybe I should say retro style bayonets.

I am not a poor man but I can't afford a real 601 bayonet.  The other choice I had was to get one of the Chinese made replicates.

For the time being I decided to get John Thomas to help me out with something to look like it could be real.

He painted one of the handles in the retro brown and the other in the 601 green.  I know the green color doesn't show up very good in this picture but it is the same color as the stock.  It is not black, it is 601 green.

It looks nice on the rifles.  We can invent our own retro, can't we?

I also had John do up one of the old Colt bipods in green and that looks nice.

Those look really nice, I'm glad I bought a Colt bayonet from Apex when they still had some.

+1. Sometimes it is good to be old.  I think I bought my Colt bayo for less than $30 with scabbard included.

The scabbards on those colt bayonets did not have metal tips on the end.. What was up with that?
Also the material had a swirly pattern to it, not smooth like you see on every other m16 and m14 bayo's

These Colt 62316 were advertised as "Vietnam era" bayonets I am not so sure they were.  I don't know for sure but I suspect they were all post Vietnam.  I can't really find out from a reliable source when they were produced.  Maybe somebody on here knows for sure.

I think I paid $59 for each of mine but I saw them on Ebay and other places for as much as $300.

They are great little bayonets to put on the repro retro builds.

John did a good job painting the handles.

The US version of 62316 I've read started production in 1975 and these were supplied until 1978, never knew who actually manufactured these for Colt (possibly Milpar or Imperial).  Think there was a lapse between actual production and when actually supplied.  Seen them in a knife book with a copywrite 1978.  The W. German 62316 I'm pretty sure is Eickhorn manufactured and was run for military and commercial sales from 1977 or so through the early 80's.  General Cuttlery,  Imperial and Milpar were also players (govt USGI contractors) during this time frame and sometime after I believe Ontario Knife Co came into play around 1989.  When the Century kits first came around Henderson Defense had some of the Colt 62316 with scabbard for $29.95.  They sold fast.  Apex had good condition for $40 and excellent for $50.  Sarco had for $50 then jumped to $59.95.  They may still have some part # BAY111.  Anybody who pays $300 for one of these deserves what they get.  Member Willp has an excellent web page on M-7 bayos and is probably as knowledgeable as any,  plus he has excellent pics.  Don't have a link.  He also knows retros.  Great source for info.

Flash nice job on bayos John Thomas is really talented and the M-7 is a handy little piece.  Works great camping or as a utility blade.  I remember when you could pick them up for $10 used at Army surplus stores.

I think this is the one your thinking of that was manufactured by Eickhorn. Blade marked Colt, Made in Germany, scabbard marked U.S. M8A1  Solingen Eickhorn.

This is the W. German 62316 I'm talking about.  Late 70's production made in W. Germany by Eickhorn in Solingen, Germany for Colt.  Supposedly sold to military and commercial markets came in a green M8A1 scabbard.  These had two piece handles L & R.

Here's something I stumbled across awhile back:

Porters has photos of a lot of variations of the bayonet.
