I was at a friend of the family's farm this weekend and I spied something that caught my eye sitting in one of several gun cases they had. It was a great looking SP1, serial # 15xxx that upon fast inspection looked to have no forward assist, no shell deflector, etc. It was a classic case of someone who has a lot of cool guns (and has had them for a while) that wasn't as much of a gun geek as you, me, or anyone else on Afrcom. I made a casual comment about the gun and he gave me a "what, that thing?" reply.
So what did I see? It looked to be in phenomenal condition. The ironic part is that everyone shot my pimped up M4's all afternoon and had a great time and yet I was left salivating over this old soldier sitting crooked in a glass case... |

Sounds like my grampa. lots of guns with a few military guns thrown in the mix
He had an older SP1 that I always droold at as a kid. He sold it along with a shorter upper and IHC M1 that was bought from the CMP for like 13 dollars and 78 cents or something shipped to the usps. I recall him showing me how to swap the uppers out. More specifically, I recall screwdrivers and cussing being involved. .
He said if I had stayed on him about that kind of stuff he would have given them to me. Lately he has been paying some sharp attention to the retro stuff in my shop. I can tell he wants one. In fact I know exactly what he wants... 16" carbine with slick sides 20rd mag |
