I swear before the retro Gods,I started this BEFORE I knew AR10s came in a carbine version, and about the time the prototype FSB thread was just started... Yhea, that's true, I remember. BTW what's up with the weird but cool looking muzzle lug holder tube thingy on the barrel? How is that made? ..then upgrade my 601 and 602,BUT,,I'm done with builds... ![]() ![]() ![]()

If yes, that the grenade retainer. The BM59 has a muzzle compensator, flash suppressor, grenade launcher all in one.I remember back in the early 80s whe SA started selling the BM59s,Kokalis (?spelling) did a report on these tri comps in SGN and said it was one of the very few that actually did what it's claimed to do. Oh,PS DerHans, remember the pics of welds I posted a while back but had part of a barrel conceiled,BUT you caught the bayo lug and asked WTH was with that,my reply was "a special project",and I named this one the "What the Hell" (WTH) carbine due to your comment |
| Rob, that turned out super duper. You put a lot of nice rare parts together on this one as usual. I know it wouldn't be retroish but I bet that carbine would look some kinda tough with one of those stubby stocks on it. Too bad I've only seen them in trap door, but your new carbine would look tough with any kinda stock on it. You could do one of your butt plate change overs? Be a little extra work and there is really nothing wrong with the way you did it. I always liked the BM59 but I think I like your AR WTH better. Almost a M-4 prototype look on the front and I dig the hand guards. Real nice job. Bet you still got enough parts for a few more builds. Think I'm gonna stop building AR's and enjoy shooting them for a while myself. Just waiting on the right barrel. |

Dang that is way cool, and only a couple of weird questions
1) How to you adjust the front sight if needed 2) Why does it look like the hand guards are on sideways instead of holes on top/bottom? Just curious is all. Oh, and can I be your son and you make me one for my birthday in May? |

Bravo, M1sniper!
I'd noted the occasional hints and knew it had to be something unique. Was wondering when you'd roll this one out! Well done, re-conceptualizing the early AR family. This would look right at home between an old AR10 and the prototypes. That barrel assembly looks great. I would have never even considered a BM59 comp. Really nice touch reshaping the FSB, too––a relatively small change, but resulting in a distinctive profile. I'd like to know how it handles. It looks really short, but that looks like a good bit of steel out there on the front end. What does she weigh overall? ...Creative, but in keeping with the retro flavor we love. nice job! |

Tourq, front site can be adjusted by popping off the hood and adjusting normally.Being it's a carbine (short range weapon) it's kinda a set it and forget it deal.I'll be siting in for 100 yrds and leaving it if I get good results,if not,I'll back off to 75. HGs have vent holes on all 4 sides,6 each top and bottom,5 each left and right sides,I just opted to install like original car 15 hgs with the seams on the sides |

Gunner, overall length is 34 1/4 inches,,,weight w/o bayo is 6.65 pounds. The balance point is right at where the hump is on the mag well on the left side directly where the 2 protective ears for the mag release are. I have seriously contemplated replacing the A2 trapdoor with an early solid rubber buttplate, but I have to admit,as I'm on the bigger side,I find the early M16 stock on the short side for my liking. To do the mod,I figured I would need to cut just short of 3/4 of an inch and the solid plate would fit like a glove.I have shouldered this numerous times, had Nicky do the same and it's surprisingly very comfortable. The tri comp, while it looks massive is no wider then a Bricks moderator (actually a blonde c-hair thinner). The inside of the comp opens out from approximately mid point right out to the muzzle ring,so the weight is more at the back of it. |

Nurse Retro called me and said you were suffering from a high fever and amnesia. She also said you were mumbling something in your sleep that pertained to something like, "this is my last build, I swear!"
I think we all feel like this at one point when a build is completed. My 604 will be completed soon but I won't say never again. I just don't know which RBRD virus will hit me next. That carbine is very cool! I'm glad there are people out there who are keeping this hobby, love affair, etc, alive. |

The bayonet lug portion is what I'm interested in. ALL ARs shoulda been like that, makes it easier to deal with a mounted M203. |

Thanks Blake...as I sit here looking at my NDS-32 upper and parts contemplating what you just wrote.........I know where to find someone to make the rear end cap and the front one looks like a normal round end cap, but trying to find those hand guards...not to sure about that. Or my ability to not butcher them when they need to be cut.
But yeah, a pencil barrel middy with a prototype FSB from Rex.... Might have to think of a different muzzle device though. |

This is the GB seller I got mine from,he does not have one listed right now,but when I got mine he said he had "many" and all were NOS,also had short ones for the BM62.I paid $70 or $75 for this one, shoot him an email:http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=214857320 |
