OK......I know it isnt correct but I bought a Del-Ton A2 upper and put some triangular handguards on it. Maybe next time I can afford all the colt and flatside stuff. I also bought a re-pop bayonet for it. The bayonet was for an M-16 and the hole's diameter is too small to fit over the flash hider. I am guessing an A2 hider is a larger outside diameter than an M'16's.
1- Are my guesses correct?? 2- If I am correct I guess I need a flash hider that will work with my bayonet and look good or at least OK with my triangular handguards. I would need it to be parkerized a nice black to work on my shiney new (amile) rifle. Delton tells me that my current hider will simple unscrew. |

I am guessing an A2 hider is a larger outside diameter than an M'16's. 1- Are my guesses correct?? No. The M7 bayonet fits just fine on an A2. There is something wrong with either your bayonet or your flash hider. Are you sure the bayonet is for an M16 and not an M14, M1 carbine, etc? The M4, M6, and M7 bayonets all look roughly similar. The inside diameter of the muzzle ring is 0.590" on the M4, 0.725" on the M6, and 0.880" on the M7. ETA: Also, I was unaware of there being reproduction M7 bayonets. Originals are certainly still cheap enough. Welcome to retroland! You start with triangle handguards, and before you know it you have half a dozen builds in progress... |
| Welcome to retroland. Standard A-2 was made for M-7 bayonet, no problems. What you have I don't know. You're not gonna use the bayo any way but I'd find out which part was incorrect and fix. Kinda leaning toward your bayo myself but either way is easy to remedy. If it's the bayo just use it for a utility blade they can be very useful camping and such. Authentic M-7 bayo is easy to find cheap and so is A-2 FH. What scabbard do you have? If bayo is cheapo copy you could ream it out and re-paint inside also, it would fit. How much is it lacking, very little or a bunch? Fix it then get a A-1 pg to match hg's, maybe an A-1 stock and you're on your way. Next thing you know you'll have a Colt stable and a nice coral. |

Here is what I bought, IT was cheap, I'M cheap, I liked the stainless look, so it seemed a match at the time. However, now it seems the Chinese got me again.
http://www.trueswords.com/bayonet-combat-knife-p-830.html As best I can measure the ID of the hole in the blade is about .750. The OD of my flash hider is about .860 I did find this other bayonet that is identified as an M7 http://www.trueswords.com/ontario-bayonet-knife-scabbard-ar15-p-5026.html Since what I have is stainless I guess the best thing to do is machine out the hole to fit over the A2 hider?? Or would a different FH be better? I'm thinking maybe FH. BTW––-Ya, I already have the A1 buttstock and grip to go with the guards. A finger shelf just didnt seem "right" along side those triangular guards. |
|
The only problem with replacing the FH is that then you have an incorrect FH, and I can't even begin to guess what FH, if any, might have a .750" OD. Correct M7 bayonets can still be had for maybe $25-40. Search GunBroker or just Google "M7 bayonet" and you'll find them.
Note to self: never buy a blade from someone who calls a fuller a "blood groove". You should post a review on the merchant's site so that other buyers can be made aware that it does not fit on an actual rifle. |

I can think of several purchases I made when I first started collecting that werent good ones that added up to alot more than that! You didnt do too bad. Keep reading here and you'll pick up a lot of knowledge.
http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/ is another place I enjoy reading. That bayonet looks like a cross between a m1 garand bayonet and one for an m 16! |

1- left a negative feedback on the site detailing the info I learned here.
2-Guess I will expand the hole to .880 so that it could be installed on the rifle if I ever want. That shouldnt cost more than a few bucks at a machine shop. 3- Upon further reflection the nice shiney stainless is idiotic. That would be all someone would need is the reflection of a knife blade to know where to aim at me in the dark. Guess they dulled the original blades for a reason. |

UPDATE––––––––-
OK so I leave the comments mentioned earlier on the site I bought the knife from. Got a call about 3 hours afterward informing me they were issuing a complete refund and I was to keep the bayonet with their apologies. I went to the site and the bayonet is no longer offered. ––––-Seems like "customer service" well above what anyone would expect or hope for. KUDOs to trueswords.com |
| Well that worked out for you. Now get the correct bayonet. Even E bay has had a few deals on original M-7's. Charleys surplus offers an Ontario for less than $30 which is good quality but not VN vintage. The Colts at Apexgunparts are a pretty decent deal and have probably the most long term value for low bucks. If you want VN vintage look for BOC or Imperial if not trying to spend a bunch. Have also seen the Conneta manufactured reasonably in-expensive. Milpar's are available but I think I'd get the Ontario as I've seen Milpar's recently that appear painted and not parkerized. I started with either an Imperial or BOC and ended up buying one of each manufacturer over time. I don't usually spend over $35 complete with scabbard except for the harder to find (FZR and Colt) or very unique. |
I bought my BOC M7 from Gunny's Surplus a while back. Here is a good article with information about manufacturers of the M7 bayonet.

––My rifle exactly (nice weapon) except I waited about 3 weeks while I sent Del-ton a flat slip ring and they installed it for me in leu of the tapered one. Would seem I already have a touch of the "retro bug" as the angled one just didnt seem to work with the triangular guards for me. Now if Springfield would only get my trigger group back to me I could go make some noise with the thing. |
