I just thoght of a new idea for chopping up perfectly useful retro parts.


parts needed
-RRA entry tube
-A2 stock spacer
-A2 stock screw
-A1 stock  

Imagine cutting the A1 stock to fit the length of the RRA entry tube plus the A2 spacer.
That might jive well with a midlength profile .625 barrel (with chopped A1 h/gs of course)
I would try this but I have no RRA entry tube and have no clue what kind of buttplate would work.


Anything that keeps the A1 profile while making it more compact is always cool in my book.
Consider it like a  607 ++

Hummm,interesting.You might be able to use a solid rubber A1 buttplate off a D stock, see if that fits,if it doesn't maybe use a fine belt beltsander,or an Xacto knife and trim  the edges till it does fit,then glue it in like the originals were.If you want to try it,I have 20 something cut offs from my65pan.I can easily remove the rubber butt plates from these without damage and would offer 1 or 2 for you to play with.Might just work

I have the entry stock.  I was thinking about putting an A1 butt plate on it with an NDS-32 upper and a colt 10" .625 barrel from Specialized Armament and the carbine triangle handguards from M1S.   I was thinking all smooth and short.  Just a thought.  Cutting down an A-1 stock is beyond my skill level.

Seriously?  Don't you know that cutting up perfectly good A1 parts is a Crime Against Retro, punishable by death by M193?

I'd like to know too. I haven't been able to do this without significant damage to the stock body.

I discussed doing something like this with my65pan - my idea was a 'retro' Sully type stock. I was going to modify a regular carbine stock though - I think your idea is better. The combo of the entry length tube and the A2 spacer is inspired. If you do it, we of course want to see pics and a breakdown of the process!

Damn Cracked,you is a walking,talkin,search fu maniac! Well,I'll post my pics anyway,,I generally cut these to about 1 1/2 inch when I start just to make it easier.Donor stock plate removal is easy as you ain't savin nuthin but the plate,keep the flame facing away from the plate,just warm the stock body and peel like a sardine can.Sometimes you get a long piece off sometimes a small one.Start at the top (buffer tube hole),when you get to the bottom you'll see in the pics the stock body has a solid area,just warm around the whole piece and with pliers bend it out.Simple enough.Then clean inside with a screw driver or wood chisel.They will come much cleaner then this,but damn it's cold out there in da garage.You can also start by melting the inner foam away before you start the peel process,just don't burn too much as it will melt the inside of the plate.I'll describe how I removed a damaged plate from a stock I wanted to save in new reply.Now pics:

To remove a damaged plate from an otherwise good stock,I used a 5/16ths drill bit with a 118 degree tip.I used the drill press so I could set the depth,but you can use a hand drill with tape wrapped on the bit as well as depth is not totally critical.I line up the edge of the drill bit with the outside edge of the ribs on the plate.Drill a series of holes from the buttplate screw hole right on down the line to the bottom.Obviously when you get to the bottom,it is a single hole.I do this on both edges and as long as you hold in no less then 1/4 of an inch from the outside edge you're OK.Where the ribs are I drill 1/4 inch deep,at the bottom where the solid spot is I go 5/8ths inch.When all holes are drilled then it's Xacto time,or box cutter,utility knife etc.Just start picking away what's left.If you warm the blade it helps.
When you're ready to install in your good stock body,I use gorrilla (expanding polyurethane glue) in the recessed area and any spots where my drill bit may have removed the original foam in the body.Then some krazy glue on the outer edge and pop it on the stock body.To ensure the expanding glue does not encroach into the buffertube hole,when I popped the plate on,I stuck an old tube in that was 1st heavily covered with butchers wax (release agent of some kind).Then clamp the whole mess end to end so the glue does not push the plate back out. Done....Worked out great on the one I did on a bet with Nicky! He thru down the gauntlet of challange,so I had to accept

Smells like somethings burning here, Oh, I'm thinking again.  Since all I have here are "E" stocks, I'm studying one.Shouldn't be a big deal to section a piece out of a trap door butt plate. Would keep the perfect profile of the stock.  Then all one would need to do it work out a way to section the trap door or seal it off.  Maybe make a core for it for storage of retro surplus parts.

I got an email yesterday from my WTB ad in the EE for an RRA entry tube. Maybe that will come through.
This project needs a new lower.
Might better start saving that pocket change.

Its not that pretty but it gets the job done.
I had to cut the butt pad in half to make it work.
I forgot to make the hole for a swivel.

I had planned on making this into a nice 601 carbine or something but its too short for that.
If I had thought it would work well there I wold be doing the brown/green scheme on it.
This stock goes better on my beater SBR.
Call it a 607 R   (r is for redneck)

I will have to measure it....  Yes.  A2 spacer with a RRA entry length tube.
