I recently picked up an arsenal refinished 601 upper with the rough black finish. I was comparing it to an original finish 601 upper I have. I noticed that the pivot pin and take down pin lug on both 601 receivers do not have any bevel cuts on them. All my other upper receivers have beveled cuts except a DK forge code upper that has the bevel on the rear lug but not the front. I am assuming this feature was added to help guide the upper receiver into the lower receiver. Any idea when this feature was added? I would add photos but haven't figured out how to yet.

I've got an arsenal refinish 601 upper and it has beveled lugs.  (LINK)  Looking through a couple pictures on my hard drive I see that some 601 uppers do not have beveled lugs, interesting.

From the pictures I have of mine, I'm thinking mine has beveled cuts on the take down lug only. I could go look right now, but don't want to wake my GF up getting the 601 out. Will look after she goes to work tomorrow though.

Interesting.  I never considered that detail before!
I only have one 601 upper within reach. Will get out the rest tomorrow and compare them all, but this one has no bevel on the front (hinge) lug, but a small...approx. 1/16"...bevel on the rear (takedown) lug.
I only have one other upper on my desk right now––a C7 style––and the bevel on the 601 upper is about half as severe as the one on the newer upper.

The two 601 upper receivers I have are like what OlGunner described above.  They both have a small bevel on the rear lug and no bevel on the front lug.  I also checked an early 602 upper receiver and it has both front and rear lugs with beveled edges.
Kaz6920, that's a good eye to notice that!

I looked at my square forge XM upper just for the hell of it, and it has bevels on both the front and rear lugs.

All four of mine are the same––1/16" bevel on the takedown lug, none on the hinge lug.

I dug mine out of it's safe and checked, here's the take down lug, the pivot pin lug has no bevel.

Are you guys talking about that small chamfer in GUTS photo? I would think that would vary depending on how heavy handed whoever was deburring receivers that day. I doubt that is actually called out on the print other than a min or max edge break in the notes.

You could be right, although all 4 of mine are very closely identical bevels.
That's a contrast to my newer uppers, which not only have much more bevel, but they're far less regular––they look like they're done by hand file.
The 01 uppers look to be more carefully machined.

But more important, this is definitely a difference between the 01 uppers and "newer" ones.  All of my newer uppers have the bevel on the front lug, too.
