| I have a steel buffer tube here, rifle length.Magnet sticks to it.Anyone know who made these in steel? |
|
Quoted:
made from chromium-silicon steel alloy? could be air soft Doubt it,came with 3 other tubes from same man.He is an old timer who got out of ARs years ago.1 of the 4 tubes is a "601" type with the holes in it.This tube is very heavy and solid, not tin can thin.I'll be back shortly with a weight comparison to known Colt tubes. ETA: Using digital scale,my 2 known colts weigh in at 3.5 oz,this steel one is 9.1 oz. |

What's that?Director of Civilian Marksmanship? I shot Tgus an email to ask if maybe the 606 or LMG version may have used one, waiting on an answer.I'm thinking JT may be correct as Jerry was known for making what he needed. ETA,I'm done building ARs,so NO 606 in my future!

DCM ETA: if your done building AR's why dud you buy 3 receiver extensions and a 3 digit SP lower?? Couple of retro buddies needed tubes,so they will be passed along, and the 3 digit SP1 will be to make my 602 COMPLETELY 110% ALL ORIGINAL COLT,and has the + sign on the lower to boot just like a real one. It'll be sent to Victor for permanent bushings. Oh,ETA,so what makes a DCM rifle a DCM rifle besides the obvious tuning? |

Oh,ETA,so what makes a DCM rifle a DCM rifle besides the obvious tuning? When it comes to the AR, a service rifle can have numerous tuning and config options, as long as the external appearance doesn't change (much). Since the goal is accuracy, that normally means a heavy barrel and free-floating handguards––but the kind that look like standard handguards on the outside. Also, the handguard usually has the front sling swivel attached to avoid tension on the barrel. There are some other technical restrictions––like the trigger pull can't be under 4.5lbs, and I'm not sure about a hooded rear sight––but overall, it's a pretty simple rifle. The trick is to wring all possible accuracy out of the basic config. Oh, and a nod to us retro fans–– Last I knew, they allowed either A1 or A2 sights and still required a fixed carry handle! |

I've got one also and a steel rifle buffer to go with it. I understood they were Sendra. ETA: The extra weight toned my .458 down nicely I would LUV to be there when the "unknowing" shoot that sucker for the 1st time! LOL! Nose to charging handle, ouch... |

Ol Gunner, I believe as of Feb 2005 rules were changed to allow carry handle only sights in service rifle competition on flat tops by NRA and CMP, rule disputed and changed by shooters of USMC and US Army. As they are, and are considered general issue service rifles. They have always been allowed in match rifle competition as far as I know at a great disadvantage. This was what I was told when I purchased my DCM barrel from Bushmaster also. There is however a great disadvantage with an A-3 carry handle sight over a A-2 fized carry handle in elevation adjustment. Something like 20 moa and this is not a good thing at 600 yards. |

The A3/A4 carry handle sights and the A2 sights have the same windage adjustments, 1/2 MOA clicks. The A2 sights adjust in elevation from 300m to 800m in 1 MOA clicks. The A3/A4 sights adjust in elevation from 300m to only 600m, and do so in 1/2 MOA clicks. |
