I bought one of the GP slings. It has blue green waxy stuff on the metal like in the pic. Was wondering how to get this stuff off? It will wipe off with alot of work but would like to get it off quicker. Can I wash this sling with out it fading? Is there something I can do with out staining the sling. This is a NOS 28 FEB 51 sling.

Are you making a field expedient sling from it?  If so, don't bother cleaning the clips because you're just going to cut them off anyway, right?  Just rub the slide clean and you're done.  Washing the sling won't destroy it or anything, but it is cotton and as such I would not expect the highest degree of color fastness through repeated washes.

On the seat belt nylon slings a way to get the powder looking gunk on the metal was to use some WD40. Took it right off.
