According to the RBR site, only the 601 and 602 had the ol' square pads. Assuming no repairs/rebuilds, are these the only two? Also, were the pads 'flat' or 'tapered'?

TIA

The earliest 603s and 604s also used the square pad port door.  Over the last few years I've seen a couple of 604 uppers for sale with this port door on them.  According to Ekie's "M16 Variaton Guide" they switched to the rectangular pad in 1964.

I've had about half a dozen 604 uppers with the square pad that looked liked they came with them.

The very early XM16E1's (603) & 604's would of had them too. Reminds me, I need to get one (original or heatnbeat) for my very early 604.

Not sure if you are wanting to know about just the military models, but the very earl SP1's had them too.

Here's an early 603 with a square pad port door.
