won a GB auction for some AR parts and would like to know, can anybody ID the two thick circular things in this pic?....no, I don't mean the slip rings the ones between the barrel nut  and the FA...I don't think they belong to an AR

the rest of the parts

Give us some clues!
Are those small holes drilled all the way through them?
Are they threaded?
what's the inside and outside diameters? thickness?

My guesses...something from inside a buffer??
No?  Well then, how about earrings?

just won the auction, so I don't have anything in hand yet, all I have to go by is that pic...I did send a message to the seller, but haven't received a reply yet

ETA: now that you mention threaded holes...I'm thinking they may be A2 rear sight elevation wheels

Don't A2 elevation wheels have a flat on them?

They do, but you knew that.  (Which is my way of saying I don't have a clue what they are.)

That would be my guess by just looking at that picture.

Agreed.  A2 elevation wheels DO have a flat on them, but only the middle portion of the wheel has the flat. Two complete disks make up the top and bottom, while the center spacer carries the numbers, tick marks, and the flat on 8/3.

They're a retro rifle...What'd you expect!?

well, if they do turn out to be A2 elevation wheels, I'll have to get rid of them right quick.....don't want them turning into a project like spare A1 parts do

ETA; my very first post on arfcom was a question on how to install an A2 rear sight, it was answered by QUIB with a link to the tech manuals here

the reason for my first arfcom query

What's that forge mark?

And no, I don't know what the "earrings" are. Do tell when you figure them out.

They should be threaded on the outer diameter...The indentation/hole is for a spanner to screw then in & out with...I don't know the name for them...

the "B" = Bushmaster and the "Diamond M"  = Mueller Industries ...from what I've been able to find out on the interweb

Let me know if they are, I can help you get rid of at least one of them.

just heard back from the seller of these parts.....he confirms that  "they are for the A2 sight , adj ring, , rifle,"

Just an interesting tid-bit, don't know if it really belongs here but I'll toss it in anyway...

AFAIK, the A2 upper receiver can support both the usual 300/800 rear sight and the 300/600 rear sight assembly usually used on "A4" type detachable handles.  Naturally, this means you could also put a 300/800 sight on an A4 detachable handle.
Might be a neat way to make an A2 retro-rifle that has a rear sight the same as your more modern A4 type rifles/carbines.

I don't think the 3/8 sight wheel would work well on an A4 carry handle because it's not deep enough (because of the rail height on the receiver) to support the full elevation adjustments. Also, why would you put a 6/3 sight wheel on an A2? That would make it less capable seeing as how it would only be adjustable out to 600 meters, as opposed to its original 800 meter adjustment.

I don't remember if a 3/6 is too short in an A2, but I know you can't put a 3/8 in a carry handle..the elevation lug is too long and it sticks out of the bottom of the handle preventing you from being able to mount the handle to the top of the receiver...took me awhile to find a 3/6 sight to install into a stripped handle I got for cheap, after I found a 3/8 wouldn't work

Interesting, that you mention trying it.  I swear I've seen a 3/8 detachable handle in the past, but now that I think about it...It wasn't attached to a rifle...And I didn't try attaching it to a rifle......Sooo....Yhea.

Okay, maybe that's the truth.

...But I still think they'd make nice earrings.
