| I just received a M16 bolt from Apex that was sold as made my Colt. It has no markings on it. Does all the Colt bolts have the MPC stamp, and if not can I tell if it was made by Colt? |
|
I'll bet it is MPC marked, but the marking is lightly engraved, and the surface finish of the bolt is somewhat rough (like sandblasted). I'll also bet that if you put some oil on the bolt, you'll see the MPC marking.
That is the way my Colt bolt from Apex was anyway... |

Three things caught my eye.
First they are advertised as "for export". I doubt Colt make substandard bolts for "export". The are very shiney, like they are teflon coated. None of my 6 bolts are telflon coated. They are parkerized and the "MPC" mark is clearly readable. If they are real Colt bolts they are shot out and coated to hide the shiney worn surfaces. Then there is the price, $80 for a new or near mint Colt bolt? Numricks sells Colt bolts for $200. In this case, "if it's too good to be true", it is. Like a Century Arms retro Sporter 1. |

I paid $45 for a virtually new (looks as if it's never touched brass) Colt bolt in the EE. |

correct me if i'm wrong, but when colt was the only game in town, they didn't need / bother to mark everything. if it was, it was colt. with the exception of the very early MARKED w winchester barrels. You are 'wrong' on this techincally. Early Colt bolts were marked "MP", later Colt bolts were marked "MPC" when additional manufacturers started producing parts. In current production the MP is followed by a letter |

Go to Ohio Ordnance Works, they have MPE and MPF marked bolts for $25 each on their website. I have seen their supply of them, they have wear but are authentic USGI MP tested bolts. Damn! That's a good price. I just ordered 2 of them. Thanks for the heads up. |
