I need some help guys I'm getting a  Colt upper I have never seen one like it. It is an A2 upper marked CM next to the sight. The barrel is marked
CM crome bore and looks to be a m16 barrel(Very thin) 20in with a A1 flash hider. Do you guys think it is a factory upper or one made up with left over spare parts. Thank you guys for your help.

CM = Colt / Martin Marietta

If the upper and barrel match, it probably came that way...

Is the upper gray or black?
Does it have a large or small pivot pin hole?

I've never seen an A1 barrel and an A2 upper mated from the factory.

Early SPIIs had A1s and slicksides with an A2 barrel.

Its really not much of a stretch to imagine someone putting a pencil barrel on an A2 upper.Barrels are after all, very easy to change & install.

Heck, I've done that myself. A while back I realized I had enough pieces to put together an A2 clone except for the barrel. I did have an A1 barrel at the time so I figured I'd throw it together. I didn't leave it that way for too long before deciding to use the parts for other builds but, for a while I has a nice light weight A2 clone(almost).

My vote would be for non-Colt assembly.

Thank you for all the replys guys. From my research it is not a factory assembled Colt upper, just an upper assembled from colt parts. As long as it shoots good I' happy with it and it is nice and light weight.

If somebody was making 1x9 chrome lined A1 profiles, I would a put that on my A2 knockoff instead of the A2 profile...
