| Ok,were there any mag releases made with a dimple? I know the button side could be straight line,or many circle for early models,,but what about the other side of the assembly, were there any with dimples??? Thanks in advance. |

HK45's right, & heatNbeat's stuff is 1st class, I bought a number of repro parts for the 601 when I first started "accumulating" for the build & before I ended up assembling it I found all the original parts, truth be told when I put'em next to heatNbeats stuff it was almost impossible to tell the difference, in fact reparkin the original mag release assembly made them impossible to tell!
Good question on the "divot" for the mag release "arm", going thru the early M16 manuals it seems that the original purpose of the divots was to put the end of a round in to move the part (unless of course the military just "discovered" the dimples were there & decided they'd be useful for that LOL!), in any event it's shown in the early manuals, if that is the case it doesn't seem to hold for the mag release piece, no reason to need to press that piece in. |
| OOHHHH fellas,I'M A HUGE HEATNBEAT fan,,I have some of his parts on my XM177E2 clone, and even bigger then that,,have you guys seen the dummy barrel he turned for me for the XM177 dummy gun I use for display???I take that HGs off and you can't tell it's not a real barrel..But it's solid bar stock turned to correct dimentions...He's a master of his craft!!!! |

I have Heatnbeat custom parts on my Prototype AR, my 601, and my 603 XM16E1.
I've replaced most of the Heatnbeat parts on my 601 with original parts and can only discern them because his parts don't have a lot of wear compared to the originals. The 601's old Heatnbeat parts are going on my future 602 build. The only "mostly original" build I plan to have is the 601. |

noob question. What was the point? Why bother cutting dimples into the ends of these things? Was it just early machining, to get it to line up on the lathe or something? It is actually a great question as I don't think anyone really knows. I've always thought it was because early on the rifle was advertised as being able to be disassembled with a bullet tip... |
