| What exactly are the differences between the chrome 601,,602,,early 604 chrome slickside bolt carrier groups.I know there are different stake marks on the key.But full round vs 3/4 round key? Which rifle used what carrier? Any other differences on the carrier? How bout bolt,Thin band is early,wide is late. What goes with what rifle? If you wanted say aahhh something correct for a late 602,but would also be correct for a very early 604,what combination would you use?? Thanks in advance |

I go with the following;
601/602 - full round gas key, narrow band bolt 604 - squared gas key and wide band bolt As for the staking, round stakes seem to be on everything and there are some square, the square mostly on the 604 carriers as I call them and the transitionals. Hope this helps? |

Hope this helps? The carrier I recently got from Machinehead has a full-round gas key but square staking - I would call it an early 604. I'm putting it in a C MP C barreled upper, with a full-fence lower, which would technically be incorrect, but screw it, I'm just happy to have a little bling! Someday I hope to find/afford a real XM16E1 carrier. ETA: Round staking would be earlier - I would say that's what you would want for a 601/ 602 build. As somebody mentioned, it's hard to have a hard and fast rule where Colt is concerned. |
| Hi Morg,,thanks.I got in trade a real nice Very early forge 604 (upper lines up with lower under the port door),so I want to do an extremely early 604,like I'm doing an extremely early XM16E1.So I'll probably try and get a 602 full round carrier,but maybe with wide band bolt.. |
