Hey guys couple quick questions...

Did the XM177E2 ever come with partial fence lower? Maybe early transitional ones?

Or only Full Fence?

Also, Where to get the DOD Stamp? any suppliers selling that piece?

Who all "Discontinued" making the correct looking stock? Essential arms? Price wise, what am i looking at here...just for a heads up if i find one.

Thanks,

Ethan

I've never seen an E2 with a partial fence.

Search Gunbroker.  There are repro DOD stamps on there from time to time.  Sometimes a stamp will get passed around by a member who has one.

Colt discontinued the proper stock and Essential Arms ran out of them as well.  A used good condition Colt stock will run anywhere from 200-300+. Snag one when you find it, they are rare.  Used Essential Arms smooth acetate stocks are running anywhere from 100-200 when they show up.

I think Unclemoak makes the stamp,,I bought a set of two, small and large and only remember the sellers real 1st name,,Dave.but I think it's uncle.. As for a partial fence lower,I can't say I've seen period pics of one,,but I did mine with my partial Palmetto lower..I would guess yes tho,,early or transitional and during my build a few members also agreed it's possible...I love how mine looks with the partial. If you backtrack last month in the EE look for Unclemoaks add for 608 stock and flash hider,,then write him a note askin if it is him.Good luck and keep us updated with pics!!

Retro Black Rifle has a couple of my DOD stamp jobs along with some info on the DOD stamps themselves.

XM117E1's could have had partial fence lowers however, so if you're up for an SBR, that'd be the route to take. One thing that you can see pics of if you look is Xm177E1s using fixed A1 stocks. The buffer is heavier, about the same as an H2 IIRC, and was an early 'fix' for malfunctioning E1s. Try a fixed A1 stock on a carbine - personally I really like it, and they were used on E1s in combat.

Those XM177E1's were rebarrelled by armorers MOS 45 B.  Ordnance Corps, HOOAH!!!  By the time those pics were taken the original 10" barrels were long since shot out. The 11.5 inch barrels superceded the 10 inchers.

On there website there are several pics of E1's with the longer barrels, check in 1969-1971 photo log

I know my eyes are going,,but it looks like that car in the pic has maybe a cord type sling on it tied to the FSB..Can anyone else verify??Maybe one of the GP straps tied on with 550 cord?

Those guys are LRRP's from the 101st ABN and used 550 cord, surgical tubing, rope, or any other misc. material to make a sling.

Yeah, a partial fence lower with a 11.5 inch barrel, noticed that. They don't have the "grenade rings" either. They are not XM177E2's, they are rebarelled weapons. Barrels wear out when your laying down a lot of fire to break contact in Mr. Charles backyard.

Is that a forward pistol grip in the lower pic?

It sure is.  Easy to make with a dremel tool too.  I made this one from an extra A2 grip.  It's just bolted through a vent hole, so it isn't as secure as a modern gangster grip on a rail, but it works well enough.
