The first gun I ever bought was an AR15 A1.  Lots of years ago. I was in my late  teens, not making much money so I saved for months.  I shot the daylights out of that thing but eventually traded it (dumb move).   I'm doing my first gun "build" and I'd like to have those old triangular handguards on this new gun.   My question is will the A1 triangular guards fit the A2?   The A1 uppers are slim pickens.    You can run across a few A1s and I really like the M16 A1s at Gunny Surplus but reviews on delivery are making me cautious.     I'd have a lot more buying options if I went with the A2.  Pure retro isn't that important to me, but wrapping my hands around those old guards will bring back some good memories.

What's funny is that as soon as the AR's came out with the round handguards, I swapped my triangular ones for the newer version on my old gun.    Now I want to go back where I started.

So, on the newer A2s, will the triangular guards fit up front?

Thanks!

Yes, just as long as you have the triangle hand guard retainer behind the FSB. Which I have never seen a rifle length barrel not have one.

Yup, A1 hand guards fit onto standard 20" A2 rifles just fine.  They will NOT, however, fit most/all "Dissipater" designs due to the gas block.
As luck would have it, putting triangular hand guards on my A4 led to me building an A1 to put them on...

Yes, as others have said...I have A1 Tri's on my Green Label Colt A2

I'll 'fess up as well.  I had triangle handguards on my Bushmaster HBAR.  As was previously stated, I eventually had to build an A1 rifle for them.

It's the first and easiest step towards a retro gun. Then you really get started on it....
