A friend of mine is in the early stages of BRD.  He is interested in the R607 and would like to make a clone.

Just one teensy problem with his plan.  He lives in Iowa where there are no SBR allowed.

I know that he's not alone in 607 lust without NFA release, so could you guys post some pics of some R607s with 16" barrels?

Thanks in advance.

Agreed, I tried with a 14.5" and a pinned slipover, and it just didn't work. Too much out front. The allure is in the shortliness.

If you can find a good barrel, it's simple to make a nice looking non-sbr 653.

Jim, you'd need a mid-length gas system and an extended FH to make that work, I think.  I found this pic, but I don't remember where I got it.  It's not mine, and it may have been photoshopped:

Here a pic of my 607 with a 16" barrel. I machined the flash hider threads down and moved them back 4.5" and made the flash hider. The flash hider over hangs the barrel by 1" The pic shows an A2 with a 16" barrel and an Israeli build with a 16" barrel.

I am also in Iowa and trying to make the damn fine retros ya all have made is a problem here.
if they just hang on the wall then probably not a problem but who can just hang em and not shot em ( not me).
Seems like to many people here have nothing better to do but stick their noses into other peoples buisness.

Even with a tax stamp I can't take my SBRs or silencers to the public range.
I just wanted to sight in a 10/22 with my Gemtech Outback and was denied.
I was told if it were a fake silencer it would be ok, but since it was real and I had the tax stamp I had to use another range.
Luckily I have friends with lots of land.

That's a bummer.  Must be an insurance thing.

You'd think they would prefer the quiet of the suppressor.  I like taking suppressors to the club and freaking our the fudds.

Nice carbine, Cornish.  I don't generally like long barreled 607's, but that one is very nicely done.

Hey, Crackedcornish, what brand or make of flash suppressor do you have on the "to build" model 607 you have above?

Is that one of the custom builds that he does or is that a modified bushmaster that he sells? looks really great. do you have a pic of the whole barrel with it installed to show the scale of the mod. to handguard ratio?

totally custom made by 45Bravo. I gave him a list of the features I wanted and an idea I had on how to build it, and he ran with it. Only thing he forgot was the faux lockwasher
here's a pic with the standard round mid length handguards

for you guys who have been following this project, I recently contacted edwin about progress on the 607 style rear caps for the mid length triangular handguards and got a negative response

If somebody starts to custom make some of those, complete with heat shields, I am SO going to buy a pair and use them to justify buying an RRA lightweight mid-length upper!
