Did Colt transition directly from slab side lowers  to A2 style on their Title I rifles, or are there examples of semi-auto A1 or partial fence lowers with Colt roll marks out there?

To the best of my knowledge, Colt went directly from the SP1 and Sporter II slabside to the Colt Sporter Match A2 style.

Colt SP1

Colt Sporter Match Target

The above rifle is the only transitional type that I know of. Notice that in this model they used the SP1 mil spec fire control pins and the SP1 front pivot pin.

Later models used the larger hammer and trigger pins and a mil spec front push pin type pin of .250 diameter.

Top to bottom, Colt Sporter Match Target (post 1989 pre 1994 vintage), Colt AR15A2 Sporter II (pre 1989 vintage), Colt SP1 (1984 vintage)

There is said to be a "White label" out there as well, A2 lower with milspec hammer trigger pins and milspec push pin, although I have never actually seen one.

Early .250 diameter pivot pins were two piece screws identical to the larger .312 screws.  Believe it was some of these early ones that were reported to have small diameter trigger pins and pivot pin.  You'd have to modify the lower to use a push pin though since they had no provision for the pivot pin detent and spring.

What a cluster........................

That's why I never bought a Colt, they just couldn't leave the darn things alone.

Great for collectors though.

Those are nice. Are you going to add a R6600, or better yet an R6600DH?

I have a white label 6551.  It has milspec FCG pins but a large front pivot pin.  It has the A2 lower.  Bought it new and still have the box.

Yup, that's what mine looks like...now all in pieces, but soon to be a CAR-15 of sorts, when the 11.5" barrel + 5.5" flash suppressor gets here and is popped on along with the 4-position stock...

I could not find my full picture, but I had a factory Colt AR15A2 gov't model - sold the lower on the EE a couple years back.

Large pin SP1 style slab lower, C7 style upper, rest was all A2 - this was the markings:

You are incorrect. .25 pins have a flat screw head on one side. The mag fence handles the other part.

Sounds like you have a green label. Have a pic of the label?

I have seen several transitional Colt lowers marked "AR-15 A2".  They had the large front pin, large fire control with no sear block.  The original rifles I have seen have an A1 upper.  The "White Label" guns are very rare having a standard .250" front hole, standard F/C and no sear block.  I remember see one sell on GB during the ban for $5,000.  It was NIB unfired.  Quite the collector's piece.  I got lucky enough to find a Colt 9mm "Sporter" that was factory drilled for a front push pin.  I use it with my DOE upper and sear.  As close to a factory Colt subgun that I can afford and still have a collection.
