We would love to help, get us some pics! Does it have a forward assist? Also check the M16 Variation Guide IV in the stickies. Possibly the star means it was Isreali, I've seen AK recievers with the star stamp that was applied by the Isrealies.

Hmmmm.  This is first time I've heard of this.  Not arguing your point. Just hadn't heard of it before.

I too would like to see a pic of tis.  Wondering if a 5 point or 6 pointed star.

Is the star on the barrel?

From Ekie's Colt's USGI M16 series variation guide edition IV:
Sometime in the mid 1980's a star is stamped on the the barrel near the chamber area. This is probably a precursor to the later O stamp indicating a chrome chamber and bore:

Here is the photo I was refering to, it was on the AK side. The guys there said it's an Israeli Ministy of Defence stamp(it's partially struck).

Your pic douesn't show on my computer; but I seriously doubt Israel uses the Star of David, the national symbol,, as an ID for an infasbtry rifle.  My Galil sure doesn't have one.. If they were going to in some way ID an IDF M16, I'd expect them to use the Israel Military Industries emblem.
