Hello all,

I have always like the look of the old-style triangular handgaurds.  I'd love to install a set on my DPMS Lite-20 to give it a retro-look.  Would this installation work without modification?  If they could be installed without modification, is there any reason that I should not install them?  I'm mostly going for the look here, but are the new-style handguards better / worse than the old-style ones?

Thanks,

Thats a big neg if your talking about the 20" barrel. The 20" barrels use a triangle handgaurd endcap and yes, it will fit the full sized 12" handgaurds on there. The newer A2 style handgaurds are better at dealing with a hot barrel and are easier to install. Also it was a logistial solution. WIth the triangle handgaurds you needed both a left side and a right side. Thus you would need to stockpile both sides to have replacements for the weapons. WIth the A2 handgaurds up or down doesn't matter. They are the same either way. This means a simpler inventory list. Also the A2 handgauds are less fragile. But for retro cache' the A1's are the bee's knees!

If your barrel has a triangular front handguard cap (which many 20" barrels do - if not most) then you can install the triangular rifle handguards without any modification. I say go for it! Install an A1 buttstock and A1 grip at the same time.

The round handguards are more durable than the triangle type.  If you are looking for the RETRO look, you need to go with triangle.

Yes, the rifle has the triangle cap for the handguards up against the base of the front sight.  Awesome!!  The gun also has an A1 modified type upper reciever, which also has a retro look.   Looks like I'm all set.  Thanks, Guys!!
