Can someone send me a nice clear picture of a colt XM gray side by side with a colt early gray receivers preferably on a white background? Is XM gray real dark almost black looking? I'm trying to figure out if any of my parts are already XM gray so I know what to send to Victor.  Thanks in advance.

Here's what US Anodizing shows at the top of the page:

http://www.usanodizing.com/colorchart.htm#ATypeIII

Personally I have seen all different shades.  I am sure it has a lot to do with variances of the anodizing process and the difference in material, either 7057 or 6106.

I have NoDak A1 lowers that are both, "early xm gray" and "pre-ban sp1 gray".  The XM lowers I have are actually a "lighter" gray.

I just sent an upper off and asked to have it match NoDaks A1 lowers with the 7075 forging.  We will see how it comes out.

I'm hoping all the mag buttons and trigger guards that I sent in end up being somewhere in between the two shades so I can use them with either color.

I've got an NOS 604 upper that matches my pre-ban gray Eagle Arms lower perfectly IE darker gray than the XM. Love the look of that lighter gray though. May get an upper and lower from NDS for the next build.

I fixed it for you

And the XM gray has the greenish hue, while pre-ban is more blue-ish.

Natural hard coat will turn bronze on 7075, but will be gray to blackish on 6061 depending on surface pre and run time.
