The only problem I can see from cutting a set down yourself would be finding a triangular HG cap that would fit correctly.  Since the HG's taper towards the front, the HG cap for a rifle might be too small.  And the HG cap for a carbine might be too large. So, if you were up for fabbing HG,s and a cap, it might be a fun project.  I know someone else here has fabbed a HG cap.  He might have some insight.

Model one and NDS make versions of what you seek grasshopper. The Model one version is more fiddly but are more authentic than the ones NDS are selling. They also look cooler I think.
