I have three or four front sight posts that I never used.  They are round.  I bought them as USGI/Colt surplus.  Are these common on new manufactured rifles, or are they retro worthy? Anything special about them?

ETA: Seems to have a light grey finish and 5 adjustments

Stang28655,

The round front sight posts with 5 adjustment notches were the original design for the AR platform.  One of the A2 upgrades was a switch to square 4 notch front sight posts.  Most AR manufacturers supply only the square 4 notch posts.  So, yes.  Your front sight posts are retro worthy.

On that note, if you can spare one...

Pretty much just an A1 sight post then.... humm.

They are extremely dangerous to have in such large quantities.  They have retronium in them!  You are almost to a critical mass.

For safety's sake, get them wrapped with a rifle or ship them to one of us for proper disposal!  The front sight base provides enough shielding.

Humor aside, I'd swap you a 4-notch square post for one of your 5-notch round posts.

Looks like the start of 3-4 new retro builds to me!

Cool.  I can remember when I used to yank the round ones and replace them with square ones because I thought they were "better."

ETA: of course, I also used to spray that mottled furniture black...

the round posts are more prone to having glare "hot spots" on them.
