I have a Colt 601 that was stored since 1973, It was never fired just stored, the barrel turned a weird blue gray, I have it mounted on an aramalite M15A1 lower, it was my attempt on an old school build, I wanted the whole thing to match and I sent alot of my stuff to Wilson Combat for Armor tuffing, I was going to do the same, anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks!

If it is an original 601 upper receiver complete, I would get a Nodak Spud 601 lower in-the-white, send it along with the upper to US anodizing, and tell Victor to match the lower to the upper.

If the upper still has the original finish, I would change NOTHING on it.

I WOULD NOT Armor Tuff any of it...

I'm sorry it is a 603 upper, no deflector ,forward assist,1/12 rate, marked "chrome bore" MP, the only color problem is the barrel it turned gray blue, this upper assembly was unfired when I got it, is it a 603?

It sure sounds like a 603. US Anodizing can refinish the barrel for you. I would not have anyone apply any kind of spray finish. Let them parkerize it.

Most likely a 603.

Have you tried oiling the barrel? If not, try applying a little 3 in 1 oil or some CLP. Or even wiping on a thin film of grease. Rub it in real good on a patch, and let it sit for a day or two then wipe it off and see if that helps. It sounds like it is just really dry.

I would oil the barrel, take it out and shoot it, then oil it again. We don't discriminate here, whether your rifle is black, grey, tan, or even Coltguard...
