So we came up with a skim cut that will clean up the gnarly stuff, but leave the majority of the flash for better cosmetic "authenticity".

It will blend better once it's been blasted and anodized.

It's not perfect, but it's a good compromise.

Now that is complete, let's get those XMs ready.

Agreed, looks the part enough for a legit clone yet has a finished looks that won't offend the "OMG flashing on my new upper" snobs.

Nicely done!

it is a beautiful thing. I love the way the a1 uppers look better than the a2s, anyway. I was too torn to vote one way or the other on the clean or flash in the last post, this way is perfect. I just might have to get me some a dem...

Looks great!  Will the A1s be done similarly?

Thanks,

I voted for leaving the flash, but think your skim-cut method looks great!  Probably the best solution to make both the "flashers" and "non-flashers" happy!

Most likely.

We'll have to see how the new A1 upper forgings look when we get them next week.

Ah, I see. I thought you meant that they just needed to be blasted and anodized to be finished.

Just out of curiosity how many machining steps are necessary to go from a raw forging to a finished upper?

I would really like to see pics of the process if you ever get the time to take some.

Great idea, good compromise.  Now everyone's happy.  Everyone will be happy when these (and the XM lowers) are in stock and shipping!

So will NDS be selling 'matched sets' of uppers and lowers with the same anodizing color on them? ANy chance you could get some LPKs and offera  big package deal with those parked/anodized gray too?
