My 1st AR was an SP1. I bought it used back in the mid 80's. Probably dates back to at least late 70's. I've kept it in super shape. Sold the upper long ago but hung on to the lower as it was, and is, my only pre-ban AR lower. Is this lower forged? I'm in a ban state and am considering whether to build my newest project on what I have or buy a newer small hole, mag fenced, etc.. type pre-ban lower.

From a non-collector standpoint what would you do, and alternatively, from a collector standpoint what's this sweet looking SP1 receiver with A1 stock worth if I do decide to replace it?

You said it was a SP1 so that would make it a Colt & they were forged receivers. If it were not forged, it would be cast & the letters & logos would be raised if I am not mistaken. I'm sure some one will be along to correct me if I am wrong.

From the non-collectors stand point do what ever pleases you, but myself I like the old school look. Why else would I be in the Retro forum if I did not?

Might want to go back & read the rules of the Retro forum before asking questions on the value of your lower. Here you go:

ALL FORUM MEMBERS PLEASE READ: RETRO FORUM CODE OF CONDUCT

Well...thanks for the warm welcome to retro. My bad for being a long tome ARFCOM member who never stopped by this area and didn't realize it had its own world rules. Before I go quietly back to where I came from I'll just add that on your command I did go read your specific rules and since I don't have any part of my SP1 for sale ANYWHERE, and didn't offer same at anytime, I don't think I deserved a scolding!

After literally hundreds of requests for prices only to have said item show up on the E&E or gunbroker makes us here on the retro side a little Leary. The response was polite, compared to some i've seen. Try to relax a bit and don't take life so serious.

So what is the big deal? A guy asks what something is worth and then lists it in the proper place, I don't see the problem?

I'm sorry, I do not see where my reply was scolding! I was just merely pointing out that the rules state that there is to be no discussion of prices or what it is worth. Jeesh, some people are so sensitive!

That is how all the posts of "How much is my ____ worth?" begins here, then next thing you know it is in the EE.

So just being a "long tome ARFCOM member" doesn't make you exempt from reading the rules that are clearly posted at the top of the forum! Good luck to where you come from.

Gotta love this, Long time TEAM members being scolded by non-contributing shortimers. You know what a Team member is don't you P08. Of course you do, cause I see you're one too. It means we actually pay for our membership to help support these forums including their little retro club. Thanks for the back up P08 but they're right, this is not the place for me. I think they are the ones that need to relax and not take themselves so seriously, and I would stress again they might want to review their rules. NONE were violated!

Speaking of non-contributing shorttimers ....

what's this sweet looking SP1 receiver with A1 stock worth if I do decide to replace it?

1) Posting “price requesting” or "look what I found" threads where items are being exchanged or sold are not allowed.

You did violate the rules and hasta la vista

Yes, we like our retro club as you call it and it is very simple, we do not discuss prices here. There are more than 50 pages in the "Used" parts section alone, do some research!

I DIDN'T OFFER MY GUN FOR SALE AND IT"S NOT LISTED ON ARFCOM OR ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD FOR SALE. CAN YOU NOT READ AND COMPREHEND YOUR OWN RULES? DO YOU GET IT YET OR SHOULD WE KEEP THIS UP ALL NIGHT!

I think the part of your post I"ve highlighted in Red may be causing the problem.  It could be construed as "price requesting".

That said I wish values could be discussed here but until the rules change they can't be.

Final comment on my end cause we've all foolishly wasted time we'll never get back on this;
1. It was a price request and the wording of your rules makes that seem a non violation if the item is not for sale.  You need to better separate and clarify your "price requesting" and "look what I found" clauses if you don't expect an argument.

2. I think the reto board rules are counter to what I've come to expect from the rest of ARFCOM. Step out to the other sub-board sometime and watch us freely exchange as much information as we can. Who better to seek information from than those who are most into that item. That includes VALUE. In most of our other sub-board around ARFCOM we don't consider that bothersome.

Good luck and good night fellas. It's gotten a little out of hand and I'm for quitting if you are.

You clearly price requested, no doubt about it.

We did not pick these rules or vote on them.  They were dictated from some authority figure way up the chain.  I don't understand why this rule is in place here and no where else but it is the rule.

This forum operates without a moderator. Site staff has threatened in the past to shut this forum down because of such threads. This is why regulars here police it heavily.
