I just purchased a complete M16A1 barreled upper for my retro build. It has a Colt C MB B barrel that looks like new, complete with a C & bell front sight. My question is this - my upper receiver has the forge codes P & M - I know from research that it was forged by Capco / Martin Marietta, but can this receiver be "original" to the barrel? In other words, can it be a Colt receiver, or is it simply a USGI receiver that had a Colt barrel installed?

Thanks in advance!

Probably not a Colt, in my limited experience.

No, it is not Colt, but a USGI replacement receiver. I have had one of these receivers in the past (wish I had it back now) & they are every bit as good as a Colt (at least the on I had was).

A Colt receiver will have a square w/a "C" in it & a triangle w/a "VP" in it stamped just forward of the ejection port.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Colt receivers aren't the only ones that have been in firefights.
