Where can I get front sight base roll pins?
I had to drill one out.
Need replacement.

Your terminology has me a little confused; do you mean the gas tube roll pin, or the FSB taper pins?  In either case, I usually get mine from Del-Ton, although everyone has them.  Or, is your FSB held on with a roll pin?

The front sight has taper pins, not roll pins.

Well I took roll pins out, but  I guess I'll put taper pins back in.
What side do they go in left or right.

The taper pin goes in from the right.

Maybe you should get a book or something.

You can't just put taper pins in if it wasn't reamed for them.

We need some pics of exactly what you did and what you are planning on doing.  Sounds like maybe you jumped into a project and need to take a step back- there shouldn't be any need to drill FSB pins.

Are you referring to the two pins that hold the actual front sight base on, the pin that holds on the gas tube, or the pin that holds on the front slign swivel?

I've seen references here & there to some fancy FSB's being held on with roll pins (aftermarket barrels/FSB's; not GI).

Roll pins are hardened...What did you drill them out with? I'd like to know, as I drilled out a FA roll pin recently and had to throw the drill bit out...

USGI and what people would call milspec calls for taper pins.  RRA and a few others use straight pins.  You should be able to notice if the right side (ejection port side) is larger than the left side.  If they are different, hopefully the barrel is drilled for taper pins, if they are the same size use roll pins.  Get a few sizes above and below 1/8" from the hardware store until you find the right diameter.  A pair of calipers will measure the length you will need.  Taper pins protrude from both sides, straight pins are generally flush fit.

Thanks I'll go back with taper pins.
When I removed the FSB, it, the gas tube and swivel were held by roll pins.
I'll never know why roll pins were used...they had been there for a while.

The gas tube is supposed to be held by a roll pin.  The swivel is held either by a roll pin or a rivet.  It is the FSB that is held by taper pins.  I don't mean to be condescending, just want to make sure you understand...

Roll pins for the FSB and sling swivel are correct on the early barrels.
Taper pins for the FSB and a rivet for the swivel came later.

Years ago, before 'retro' took off, I changed my barrel from roll pins to taper pins/rivet. Now I had to change back to make my retro 'correct'.

Is it correct to assume that a swivel with a roll pin 'could' in fact have factory roll pins to secure the fsb?
