I'm definitely leaning that way. Back in the early 80's I was issued an XM177 that had the moderator replaced with an A1 FH. |
Now I know why I cant find an M1 at CMP |
The "M14" is actually built on an Armscor Receiver with a Sparrowhawk Dummy Selector. I do not currently have any Class III's although I have owned some in the past. Yes, I do love my Garand's, 03's, Krag, Trapdoor, M1 Carbine, M1917's and now I've finally worked my way to the retro AR's..........
|
Those Krag-Jorgenson rifles are pretty neat guns........my uncle has a rifle and carbine, and they are fun to shoot.........now he is looking for a 6mm Lee..........you have some really nice rifles
|
Krags are a great deer rifle in the brushy country. Holy M1 goodness.....gotta love those garands.......I don't need a Garand, I don't NEED a Garand.......s@&t!! Actually I do have a buddy that has a really nice little M1 carbine he is thinking of trading me for this..![]() ![]() I have no clue what the carbines are worth, but I have put alot of work into my 700 and am kinda attached to it. Dangit, don't know what to do, that little carbine is a blast to shoot! |
|
Well M-1 Carbine prices have been on the rise in the recent years. Depending on the maker and condition, original finish, stock, etc. of the M-1 your buddy has, a $700 trade value doesn't seem out of line at all. CMP was selling the common Inland models recently for what, $600? If your buddy has a Winchester or say a rare Rock-Ola model, $700 isn't out of line at all... I've got two USGI carbines that I've had for about 10 years now. One is an Inland and the other is a Rock-Ola. They are a blast to shoot, that is for sure. You should have at least one in your collection |
Whoops, you are right of course Tex. I don't know anything about Remington 700s, so don't know how much one might go for. Sorry 'bout that |
|
But you are correct $700 is not out of line for an M1 carbine. I've talked myself out of buying one several times and the prices keep going up in the meantime. Just too many other projects are taking my spare change. I've limited myself from looking at any rifles on retroblackrifle.com except for the 601. Retro project posts in this forum are not helping me any! Focus! Focus! |
|
Ah my dream line up. Everything from a trap door Springfield to an AR. I have the 03, Garand, M1A, and AR. I need to work on the 1917, Krag, and trap door. Of course I can't keep up with the numbers game. Nice vault. I sure that's not water running down the back wall. You are one of my heros! Bugs762 |

AHEM! Regarding Carbean sales: www.odcmp.com/rifles/carbine.htm Unless the carbong you're wanting to trade that very nice M700 for is 100% original, of course. |
| Thanks for the link. I had no clue the little boogers were getting to be worth as much as they are. The one my buddy wants to trade is a winchester and looks like brand spanking new. The 700 started out as a cheap adl with a crappy factory synthetic stock. I found a nice old walnut stock and bedded the action and had a few tricks done to it. It'll pop dimes at 100 yds all day long if I do my part. |
What he said While only Inland made more M-1 Carbines than Winchester, they are not that easy to find and when you do find one they command a prremium because hey, it's a Winchester. I'd say go for it as well! Make sure you post a picture of your new "war baby"! |
If you look close enough, you'll see the very end of a Carbine barrel sticking up just past all the Garands. It's an Underwood.
