I live in California (I Know, I know, I hate this place to) and have an assault rifle permit for two ar15 lowers. I have the permit because I’m a US Marine stationed in San Diego. I can’t really just go to Arizona and buy a new NDS- 601 lower. Although I do remember a few years ago Olympic Arms did this thing were you send them your lower and they destroy it. Put the same Ser Number on a newly manufactured one, and send it back to you. Does anyone know if NDS Does this. Thanks . |

Nodak is "off the list". Harrot vs County of Kings ruled that AW's have to be listed by both Make and Model; the generic "ar-15" listing doesn't hold water anymore. Any California FFL that deals in "Off List Lowers" aka OLL's can order you a Nodak receiver. Not all ffl's are savvy enough to deal with them, as CA DOJ still try's to intimidate FFL's on the legality of them. KPIX in San Francisco did a segment on them recently and interviewed an infamous DOJ employee-Iggy Chin" complaining about this "loophole". You just will have to install a bullet button type device making it a "fixed magazine" (which can be removed with the use of a tool, aka a bullet tip) and only use 10 round magazines which can be had in the appearance of 20 round and 30 round magazines as well as the short 10 round magazines. Due to having a fixed magazine you can have such things as collapsible stocks and flash hiders as well. Our best guess is that over 200k OLL rifles have been built in CA in the last couple years. For you to say that makes me believe you haven't even seen the list. It in fact covers very little. Many many receivers are not banned, Nodakspud included. Read what RedCliff wrote and then go to www.CalGuns.net. Don't believe this FUD that AR15 style rifles are illegal in CA otherwise myself, about 200,000 other CA citizens and several dealers in CA would be in jail. |
In fact I have read the CA gun laws, and to my understanding it was all ar15 type rifles. I stand (very happy) corrected. No need to get your little nickers in a bunch. Your ar lowers aren’t going to melt because what I said.hanks THANKS for that great info redcliff |

Crewchief, if you sign up with Calguns.net just put a post in the rifle forum introducing yourself and ask for someone to private message you with the name of an OLL dealer in the SD area. I know several members down there build them, but I dont know who they're getting the receivers from. Some ffl's don't like their name mentioned on the board due to monitoring by ca doj who still likes to harass dealers about this. Hence the Private Message (PM) request. Oh and be sure to enable private messaging in your account options first, or you'll never receive the answer :) |
I have talked to ATF Technical Branch about that, and it is no longer allowed. But, we can send a replacement receiver directly to the end-user if it's a warranty replacement for a defective part. Which frankly, surprised me. We have been shipping to Kalifornia for a long time. |
do you need to verify that it is a replacement part or is that not your responsibility? I'm asking because people ask me to ship to CA..... |

I believe that is a separate issue. We are an "off list" manufacturer. What I'm talking about a part that we manufactured/distributed, the end-user found a defect. They send it back to us, and we send them a new part. We verify the defect when they send it back to us. |
