I am currently putting together a retro project based on a NDS XM16E1 receiver. I would like to get the small parts to match and was thinking of going the Norrell's resin route. My question is what color to get that would match the lower and if anyone has done this if they could post pics.

Normally the small parts would not match the lower receiver. If you want it to look authentic, leave it as is.

Second part: Norrells Flat Grey Black will match your lower nicely.

Here is Norrels Grey-Black on my 603 clone. The finish on the upper is original Colt.....

I used multiple, thin layers......and preheated to about 150-200 or so.........then used mothers rubbing compound on the lower to smooth the finish to replicate the smooth (original) finish on the upper. preheating and light coats gives a little lighter (color)finish, but rougher texture....

As crazy as this sounds.....the upper/lower match is purposely a bit "off" on the XM-177 clone......like it was on most of the real ones I've actually seen in person...it is the same Norrels, but heavier coats, on the lower. The upper is original, but worn, Colt.

Nice job on that lower. It looks great.Good idea to polish the Norrels up a little bit to replicate the original finish.I would not have thought of that.

I did something similar. I polished the upper in the photo with Meguiar's and left the lower alone after using Norrells.http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l260/my65pan/000_0421.jpg
