After building three Aks,two Romys and a Yugo,I am going to try my hand at a retro AR. I just bought an A1 upper from Gunny's surplus and it looks pretty good. Bore shows some wear but lots of rifling left. Metal and finish is good with just a few dings, same with the handgards. I am planning on using an NDS receiver and then just price shopping the net and local gunshows for the rest. Unfortunately,I live in NY,so I cant build an exact retro. No bayo lug and no flash hider. I can have a muzzle brake,as long as its permanately attached. I can still have the flavor of an A1,and thats better than nothing.

Sounds like you and I are at about the same point Harley.  I orderd an A1 upper from Gunny's a few weeks ago myself and it sounds like yours is in about the same condition as mine.  What type of BCG are you planning on using for your upper?

72Harley,
You may not be able to have a flash hider, but there IS an alternative that would still give you "the flavor" of a retro 3-prong.  One of the members here, 45Bravo, makes a non-flash-hider lookalike that you might want to check out.  Go about 1/2 way down the page here and you'll find it.

Viking,I havent really thought about what BCG I am going to use. The Syracuse gunshow is next month, and I plan on doing a bit of shopping then. I still need the lower, lower parts kit, buttstock and grip as well as BCG,so its a big list. I'm in no hurry as I have 3 newly built AKs and a CETME I just bought to keep me busy in the meantime.
