| Help! I recently got a front capture pin off the EE, for my XM16E1 build (counterbored receiver) but it seems to be missing parts. Don't they have a ball bearing & flat spring? I'd like to know what it should look like, how it goes together, and where I can find the parts I need to fix it. Thanks. |

I think I am confused by the nomenclature. Current ones are called front pivot pins. Old ones were called non-captive pivot pins. Seeing that he was using a counter-bored upper and reading the word "capture" and thinking "captive" just had me confused. I started drinking waaaay to early.

Morg, can you give us a better description of what you are trying to do. We need to know what your lower, upper, and the pin looks like. There is a lot of room for confusion with the way you worded your post. Are you using a slabside lower like a 601 or a partial fence lower like the XM16E1? Are you using a 601 upper that is counterbored? Is the pin you have a 601 pin or a 603 pin? The difference in pins is this; the head of the 601 pin will be round and the shaft will have no groove, while the head of the 603 pin will be round with a flat cut where it meets the detent in the lower receiver. There will be a groove that the detent slides in which keeps the pin from rotating. |

I will be using a 603 pin (using your description) with a Nodak Spud partial fence lower. The upper is a 1966 vintage counterbored, no forge mark upper w/Colt proofs. I am about to buy my second lower, have almost everything I need, plus a Rock River lower, except I decided to use it for a different build, so I have been in no rush to get my LPK. I just got a grey front pin from a member here, but it is missing the detent & spring - Sarco has them, so I think I understand it all now. I've fired and cleaned ARs before, but this is the first time I've built one, and I'm building 2 at once, so I've been collecting parts for 2 rifles. No excuse for not having a LPK yet, but I really wanted to wait and put it all together 'grey'. So, the 603 pin is the current standard correct? In that case I just need a detent & detent spring. You know, one of these days I'm actually going to have a complete, running XM16E1... |
